Made the @lison.knits tide top in between the last two heatwaves but then it got so hot last week I didn’t even want to think about knitting so never got round to posting.

It was a quick project with a minor hiccup when I made the rookie error of twisting when joining in the round…I was in denial for a few rounds then frogged.

A few details on the make: It used just under two skeins of @sostrenegrene cotton and I did the waist shaping option. I think if I make it again I’ll try a more stretchy bind off and maybe even out my tan line ahead 😂

I don’t wear much cream / white as I get food down myself all the time, so I have invested in a Tide detergent pen now 😎 by @studio.pan

A little quilted 🌑 pouch for my friend @sewingwriter to store random bits and bobs. I used the moons I made during an indigo dyeing workshop last year, 月 features in both our Chinese names so it was a nod to that. ❤️

@bookhou has a great YouTube tutorial on how to make the pouch, I was very inspired by the shades of blue she used for hers. 🌊 by @studio.pan

Walked around the neighbourhood in my new two piece, feeling thankful the 🌞 came out for my 30th as otherwise I would have been miserable in this outfit.

✨ Skirt - first time making the @soften_studio clo bias skirt and it won’t be the last. I’ve never made anything cut on the bias but was inspired by all the beautiful clo skirts I’ve seen. The inside is actually neatly finished for once because of French seams 🥹 I skipped the drawstring this time and went for a 3cm waistband.

✨Top - made a matching shirred top inspired by @whatabbeywore and @thweekendproject’ tutorials. Instead of a dress I opted for a top just so I can mix and match a bit more. Thank you to @loesmoene for sharing tips and video links! It wasn’t meant to be cropped but I did some bad maths (lol forgot basic things like seam allowance) but I think it worked out in the end.

I finished the top the night before my birthday party rather than on the day, I count that as growth. 🙌

Fabric is a chocolate brown linen from @fabricgodmother, I still have some left so might squeeze another top out of it. by @studio.pan

I’ve been carrying my office pack lunch in miscellaneous plastic bags for years so this project has been on my list for ages 🥹

Inspired by brown paper bags (and one made by @dollisgoods), I self drafted this with a folded bottom detail. To get my head around it, I started out with a prototype then scaled up, making sure the base could fit my Tupperwares.

Fabric:

- @merchantandmills cotton dry oilskin in Rust, I love how it creases
- @raystitch navy ripstop, if there were any leakages I could wipe clean, I also use too much turmeric to go for any lighter lining

Other details:

- Hemline bronze heavy duty snaps from @williamgee_uk, first time getting the hammer out for a project!
- Topstitching the bottom was a pain in the butt
- Pockets for my new @belmont.japan travel chopsticks (I love them so much, will be perfect for my instant noodle craving on hikes) and tissues
- Loop on the side made with leftover cotton herringbone tape

This was one of those classic projects that should have taken half a day but I managed to put off/ spread out over 2 weeks, but WIP no more 😅 by @studio.pan

A special embroidered felt envelope and letter for my friend’s 30th. I set myself the theme ~ cute but morbid ~ and I think I hit the brief with this one. 🐸🪦🌈

A few details:

- He used to wear a frog onesie on uni nights out so that was the inspiration behind the stamp
- He loves Pink Floyd so I embroidered the lyrics from Time as I thought they were quite fitting…if you know the song, you’ll get the embroidered scribbles
- We both studied law and if you work in a law firm, you cannot escape WIP. I kept the letter frayed and all the underside stitches visible, really leaning into WIP…
- I have a beautiful book called ninety nine words for rain (and one for sun) by Manchan Magan (illustrated by @megan_luddy) which contains different Irish words to describe weather, tuar ceatha means rainbow (a nod to the iconic album cover)

Everything is a little unintentionally wonky and messy but I think so is life so I’ve just accepted it 🥹💌 by @studio.pan

It has been grey in London for what feels like forever, but the 🌞 showed its face on Saturday. I finished my @hirismakes fingerless gloves last week, it was a quick project compared to my vest (which I actually also wore in this picture, layered under my puffer).

I think knitting has changed my relationship with winter for the better, I’m knitting for present me (these gloves have made my cycle into work more bearable) but I’m also dreaming of longer and brighter days ahead, namely the day I can walk in a park with just my vest over a t-shirt. There’s something quite powerful about it, a blend of yearning and manifestation that has been good for my brain.

Also the knitting community is so great: this was my first time trying magic loop, @y_craft_shapes gave me a crash course at @sohoknitclub, @jillsknittingdiary lent me her short needles and @thisthingtookforever shared notes on this make! ❤️ It was so satisfying to see it come to life, I would shout ‘look look! I’ve got a thumb’ like an absolute child to my partner, never thought a making thumbs could bring me so much joy? (Tubular 1x1 cast on nearly broke me though).

Yarn was De Rerum Natura ulysse, I love the pop of 🔵. I cast on 36 stitches but could have done less as I’ve really stretched it out already. Noted for next time!

Sewing a mini 🍅 pin cushion

I have been engrossed in knitting so this was a quick project to ease back into sewing. My friend had her eye on the classic tomato pin cushion and the voice in my head said “you can make one”, I think I took it too far as I ground my own walnut shell leftover from snacking and used it as a filling (it sharpens the needles!)…

If you fancy recreating, I used @youmakeitsimple’s free template and YouTube video as a reference (I didn’t have a printer so just zoomed out on my screen and sketched/you can use tracing paper).

Fabrics: red cotton twill from @newcrafthouse, thread and green gingham from @raystitch.

First knitted project out in the wild 🧶

I have been very inspired by @hisydgraham’s crafty cabin adventures so thought a weekend away in an Estonian cabin was the perfect time to learn to knit. It had wifi so I was able to watch lots of YouTube tutorials in bed (also shoutout to the strong little light that could pivot saving my already questionable eyesight). The first stop we made after flying in was the yarn shop…the shopkeepers at @woolandwoollen were so knowledgeable and patient as I deliberated.

I decided on a simple scarf in garter stitch, holding drops melody uni colour and another merino together. A few other details:

- I wanted it to be super soft and fluffy but I think I went a bit overboard with the fluff, stupidly thinking if you were holding two it had to be the same thickness…
- the inspiration behind the colour combo was that it kind of represented winter for me as someone who finds it hard to regulate temperature, just constantly feeling too hot or too cold - the stitches come out as a chaotic blend of both
- English way seems more natural to me but I’m trying to give continental a go too?
- Note to self, leave enough to cast off (that’s how I ended up with a paintbrush as a third needle panic situation when I tried to undo)

I blame all the beautiful knitted makes popping on my feed for enabling this. Knitting in bed with the electric blanket on is a such a pure new joy though. 😭 by @studio.pan

Little hand stitched felt dumplings 🥟🎄

I started making these as a way to keep my hands busy and mind calmer. Decorating this dumpling tree also brought a lot of joy…

I think they would make a fun gift/stocking stuffer, so if you fancy sharing with your dumpling loving pals and family, I’ve opened up pre-orders (link now live in bio!)

Snap them up quick as there’s a limited batch (it’s just me, one human hand stitching away)! I will be posting them (UK only this time) on 6 December.

If you’re free this Friday, I’ll also be at the @zaoancollective @loom.club ESEA winter market so come say hi. If you’re swinging by and want me to set one aside just drop me a DM.

Can’t wait to see pics of these little dumplings in your abode. ❤️

Literally jumping for joy as I have finally finished my #lmcedarpants. 🥲

I never thought I would sew my own jeans but I loved the details on this pattern. Not only are @leila.makes’s instructions so clear, she writes in her introduction that it was designed with movement in mind and allows for normal body fluctuations e.g. the elasticated back and crotch gusset. It read like a manifesto - yes our bodies change, I want to go about my day, be able to squat, high kick and not have to unbutton when I eat dinner and dessert!

Seeing so many beautiful cedar makes (for a lot of people it was also their first time handling a zip too) gave me confidence. For my first pair I went for a classic washed denim from @good_fabric_store, inspired by @_ym.sews_ @doublebassgirl and @madeby_francesca. I’ve never done so much topstitching, I used a contrast denim thread from @raystitch and as I wanted to add a personal touch, I made a label with my stamp and attached it to the back.

✨Notes:

- Size 8 (but size 6 waist), it has a lot of ease so will just sew a 6 next time
- Did most of the topstitching to Lily Allen’s new breakup album and can’t tell if it made it better or worse
- Took 1 inch off above and below the knee, but I’m shorter than I thought so will take off more next time…
- Reminder to self to not sew buttonholes when emotionally unstable, fixed it by hand ty @fromcarlyb’s vid

Probably my proudest make to date, it was a steep learning curve but got there in the end! 🥹 by @studio.pan

♥️ bookmark for my friend Katie, a lover of romance novels 📖

I followed @jesssicashaw’s tutorial, it was a great way to use up scraps I had from other projects - @clothhouse_studiolondon check cotton, @good_fabric_store washed denim and @newcrafthouse red cotton.

I thought it would be a quick little project but alas I underestimated how long it would take and then rushed it. I was also truly possessed when I initially tried to embroider with my machine (do people do this with a special foot?), it looked terrible so I went back by hand.

It’s now in the post, I’m hoping she’ll like it despite how asymmetric and wonky it is. 🥹 by @studio.pan

A #lmlilbuckybag gift for my friend who knits and is going to learn to crochet. 🧶

I made this about a month ago and three weeks ahead of their birthday. Who is this new person that sews in daylight as opposed to burning the midnight oil ahead of a deadline… 🌝

The outer fabric is a heavy bull denim from @raystitch and the lining is an apron another friend got during a cooking class in Thailand which I’ve been meaning to repurpose. Originally I was going to go for a bold outer but I actually love how well the pink and green lining go together. 🌺

This pattern was a great free one from @leila.makes (yes to lots of pockets). I’m currently working on cedar pants and going to tackle my first fly, send me positive thoughts. by @studio.pan
