MRIDVAN HOUSE | 60' x 50' | 6350 sq.ft. Built-up

Before walls, there was earth. Before architecture, there was nature. Somewhere between the two, "Mridvan House" emerged—a home imagined as a quiet extension of the land rather than an object placed upon it. Derived from "Mrid" (earth) and "Van" (forest), Mridvan reflects a habitat where built form and nature coexist. Rooted in its regional context, the house embraces earthy materials, muted textures, open volumes, and a sense of calm that allows architecture to feel both contemporary and deeply connected to its surroundings.

The design is an experiential interpretation of the "Panch Tatva—Earth, Water, Air, Fire, and Sky". Earth finds expression through locally sourced brick, terracotta, and tactile surfaces; Air flows through interconnected spaces, double-height volumes, and porous jaali screens; Water introduces moments of stillness and coolness; Fire emerges through warmth, natural light, and intimate gathering spaces; while Sky enters the home through skylights, voids, and carefully framed openings. Instead of compartmentalized rooms, a continuous spatial spine connects the home, allowing light, air, movement, art, and everyday life to unfold together.

Here, nature is not merely a backdrop—it becomes part of the experience. Handcrafted terracotta screens filter sunlight and create changing patterns of shadow, while skylights and large openings allow the atmosphere of the outdoors to move deep into the interiors. Hand-painted murals, sculptural animal elements, greenery, and framed views further blur the boundary between architecture and nature. **Mridvan House is therefore less a constructed object and more a living atmosphere—a home shaped by earth, softened by light, carried by air, and connected to the rhythm of nature.
