Taye-Rafael (Writer & Director) is a 23-year-old filmmaker, playwright, and educator from Donaldsonville, LA, passionate about storytelling that heals, uplifts, and redefines the Black experience. A 2023 graduate of Dillard University with a Bachelor of Arts in Film, he is the founder of Studio4:58, where he leads with vision and vulnerability—crafting work that bridges art, advocacy, and faith.

With nearly two decades of professional experience in theatre and five years in film, Taye-Rafael’s storytelling is deeply shaped by his work in education and mental health, where he has served and grown for the past three years.

Driven by a mission to shift the narrative surrounding Black people in media, he is equally committed to empowering the next generation of artists, especially youth, through opportunity and representation. He is a firm believer that “With God, ALL things are possible…”

Some of his notable theatre roles include “Seaweed” in Hairspray, “Curtis” in Dreamgirls, and “Agwe” in Once on This Island.
Some of his notable film work includes NCIS: New Orleans, Tall Girl 2, The Burial, and Nickel Boys.

“Pearls” is Taye-Rafael’s love letter to Black women—a tribute to their strength, softness, and survival. Through this work, he hopes to say: “I see you. I’m sorry for what this world puts you through. And I will always honor your strength.” He is humbled and grateful to bring this vision to life with Studio4:58’s debut stage production. by @studio458productions

She bled… and still bleeds.
She fought… and still fights.
She prayed until her voice cracked, and still—
she prays.

This is for the women who carry it all and still rise.
The black woman.
Oh how heavy the head that was never given a crown,
so they made armor out of pearls.

Pearls.
Audition date coming soon.
