SPINNERS — an exhibition by Denise Stephanie Hewitt, presented by @converse.

When Denise shared her idea of shooting diasporic DJs. I drafted a 32-page deck exploring concepts, art direction, and set direction to add onto it. I proposed we pay homage to the sound systems that carried the music before any of us got here. Found Dub Stuy — a real sound system with Brooklyn origin, set the black and white treatment on a couple photos.
And it came to life through her and her team’s willpower.

So fun to tell real stories….

Favorite Stills From “My Mamita’s Moment”.
Concept, Direction + Production.

To work with Mamita’s Ice’s, a New York staple and childhood memory was pleasant. We heard about Roberto, one of the key family members who got things running in America. And a touch of his story.

One thing was on my mind: to highlight him - properly. Aesthetically along with depth. The exact model of Datsun they did deliveries with in Dominican Republic was used, set up in the new factory to show the pay-off of over 20 years of hard work… alongside other subtle nods to their journey.
