Making of the Claudie Chair arrow down legs, step by step.

1. Summoning the design.

2. Four legs require about 40 board feet of maple. I chose maple for its strength, hardness, and dimensional stability.

3. Each bundle becomes half a leg, either the upper or lower section.

4. The planks are glued and clamped into dense, solid blocks. This technique, known as glulam, is essential when a piece will be veneered.
A solid wood block is prone to movement caused by seasonal changes in temperature and humidity, eventually causing the veneer to crack. By laminating thinner layers and carefully alternating the grain orientation, the internal stresses counterbalance one another, resulting in a much more stable substrate.

5. The blocks are turned into perfect cylinders and cones.

A stiletto heel, a knee joint, and a thick thigh.

🦿

6. A first assembly test.
Even though I know every measurement by heart, assembling the Claudie Chair like building blocks after so many hours of work, and finally experiencing its true scale, feels surreal.
Thank you @diego_jacazio for your endless generosity and support in bringing the first Claudie Chair prototype to life. by @studio__cani
