Hello friends! I am excited to share that I will be opening a weekly community acupuncture clinic at Ponsanooth Village Hall in Cornwall from the 19th Feb ✨ Medical research continues to prove Acupuncture as a time tested therapy that can support a myriad of conditions - fertility, reproductive & hormonal health, mental health, GIT health, chronic & acute pain, among others. Sadly, like with a lot of complimentary therapies, cost becomes a barrier to access, limiting it to the lucky few and encouraging plaster like alternatives that do not treat the root of the cause, and often create further imbalance in the body. Fortunately, when I was in London I had the opportunity to assist and then work for 3+ years at the incredible Hilltop Community Acupuncture clinic in New Cross. It is through my work there and at the NHS Gateway Clinic, that I saw the profound effects and importance of a multi bed acupuncture clinic within a community. By breaking down the barrier of cost we are not only able to reach a far wider demographic but also acupuncture works most effectively cumulatively, and therefore when people are able to utilise the treatment more consistently, we in turn see significant improvements in health. community : definition 1 = a unified body of individuals. Much as this clinic will be a space for people to come for support for specific conditions, I aspire for this clinic to be a space where people can come before they need to, or without specific focus. The modern world pulls us in so many directions it can be hard sometimes to hold on to that sense of unity with ourselves, and in-turn, those around us. Sometimes we just need someone to talk to and to be listened by, to be touched and be seen. Not fixed… the fixing being in the exchange of hearing and being heard. A moment of quiet, a space for exploration rather than answers. A space away from judgement, to feel whatever is to be felt. A place to put down the weight that can sometimes weigh so heavy, returning back into the world a little lighter, a little more one. The clinic will use a pay what feels right payment model - more details and how to book on website👆🏼share the love ✨ by @studio_acupuncture

Summer is about love and connection and eating lots of vegetables. Summer is ruled by the Heart, the element of Fire & the emotion of Joy. Sit with it, open yourself to it, feel it; but don’t fly too close to the sun my dear, make sure you make time for the quiet too, your Winter-self will thank you x by @studio_acupuncture

Hydration is more than water, the body needs something to grab onto. In Chinese Medicine we work with thermal energy of foods and drink, rather than actual temperature. Cold does not mean cooling, if anything, Cold makes the body have to work harder which in turn, creates more internal Heat. Like it to a machine having to work extra hard, if it uses extra energy, there is more friction. That friction over time dries up fluids, leaving space for Heat to accumulate. This can show up as all sorts but commonly as disturbed sleep, irritability, headaches, constipation, thirst, dry mouth, low grade fever … Cold drinks quench in the moment but over time do more damage than good. This drink has a cooling energy that will quench you from the inside out. Ofc the occasional iced treat is fine, but think about balancing it out with warm and room temp fluids too. If you feel like you’re a slightly cold person, struggle with inflammation, loose bowels, or low immunity in the Winter, add some ginger powder in too. Play with the proportions and feel into what feels right for you. Enjoy x by @studio_acupuncture

“Treat winter diseases in summer and summer diseases in winter.” … a traditional line within Chinese Medicine theory. This means soak up the sun but still make time for rest. Enjoy the fresh delights of Summer but keep consuming warm fluids & cooked foods. Make time for breakfast, make time for yourself - take a look at your stress. Keep your feet warm & avoid sitting around in a soggy cosi. If you struggle with a low immune system in the Winter this is the time to nourish that. & If it hurts, if it reoccurs, don’t ignore it, it is probably your body trying to tell you something. Chinese Medicine works as a preventive medicine, it’s a practice in shifting mind set, learning to meet something as it arises instead of waiting till you need to fix it ✨ by @studio_acupuncture

“There is beauty in relationship and the whole cosmos is a movement in relationship.” - Words from the great Krishnamurti from his book Network of Thought. I often think about how we can fixate on our relationship with others, things and people, and forget to think about the relationship with ourselves. When we really listen in, how kind, how gentle, is the voice in your head? I know it’s not always easy, but maybe this coming week when you catch yourself being hard on yourself, take a breath and see about switching out the voice for something a little kinder, a little softer. Because our relationship with ourself, affects our relationship with others and that in turn, affects our relationship with our community. & it’s up to us to inspire a good one of them☺️Sending Sunday love x by @studio_acupuncture

GB20 - Wind Pool - Fengchi - 风池 - a favourite point of mine, and an area that might feel particularly tender at this time of the year. When we look at Yin-Yang pairing in Chinese Medicine, The Gall Bladder is the Yang channel that works alongside the Liver’s Yin channel… And it is this wonderful pairings time of the year. What imbalance in the Gall Bladder Channel can look like? * Pre Menstrual Tension (PMS) - irritability, frustration, tender boobs, undulating emotions* Indecisiveness & lack of courage - struggling to make decisions * Temporal headaches, tinnitus, dry/red eyes * Neck and Shoulder tension * Sciatic/lower back/hip pain that travels from your lower spine through your glutes down the side of your leg* Bitter/dry taste in your mouth * Waking between 1-3am * A busy, restless mindThe climatic influence for the GB and LIV Channels is Wind, and the Winds of Spring are in full motion, making all of these things show up more than usual. Acupuncture and Gua Sha help to relieve stagnation and restore balance, helping you move through the season with much more ease. These channels like fluid movement and stretching. Food wise they appreciate foods that are light, bright and energetic - sesame, citrus, mustard greens, celery, kiwi, rhubarb, asparagus, spring onions, mackeral, chicken broth… to name a few. Feel like any of these things are coming up for you? As always, message me and we can chat about how Acupuncture & Chinese Medicine can support you x by @studio_acupuncture

• a climber, surfer, swimmer?• desk sitter, phone scroller…• easily stressed neck & shoulder tenser? I hear ya. Here’s a bit of self massage that I find so effective. Although the modern beauty market has swept it into a whole new identity, Gu Sha, was originally used very differently. * 刮 (guā): means ‘to scrape’* 痧 (shā): refers to the red or purple colour that appears on the skin after the scraping process, indicative of stagnant blood and qi/energy in the areaGua Sha is an ancient practice that has been documented as a significant part of Chinese Medicine since the Ming Dynasty (1364-1644). It is known to release stagnant blood and energy, which in turn encourages the bodies natural healing capabilities. It is used for a range of muscular and nerve pain - on neck, shoulders, back, as well as hips, legs and feet, but also for expelling fever and boosting immunity. Alongside releasing stagnation by bringing blood flow to the area, it is used by practitioners diagnostically. Where the ‘sha’/redness shows, is often where the stasis is, which can in turn direct where we put the needles. A wonderfully, beautifully, simple but effective practice - that you can do too! As always practice cautiously - any questions or concerns, just ask and I’ll be happy to guide you! by @studio_acupuncture

— Soon I see the new life break through squashing the bracken of last yearfilling the gaps and making space learning to move at a steady paceSome words I wrote back in 2018 that came back to me as I wondered around @trebahgardencornwall with my folks this week. It’s a delicate balance engaging and retreating, holding just being, when so much is going on in the world. In Chinese Medicine Spring is governed by the Liver organ, which opens to the eyes. Spring is a good time to practice observation. When it all feels a bit much, or not enough, it’s good to practice sitting and staring, looking at something anew (landscapes & relationships) and giving space to what else might come up. I like how these theories and following the seasons gives us permission to do the stuff we know to do, but sometimes forget. I’m going to take some time offline over Easter but I’m wishing you lovely lot a lovely time ✨🌱 by @studio_acupuncture

Move with me - Movement for Spring 🌱 takes just 5-15 minutes & will only make you feel good, I urge you to make a moment for it. Do it on your own, in a chair, with your kids, with your dog, with your grandparents. If you can, do it outside, take it on a walk with you.Maybe your focus feels a bit split at the moment, maybe you’re being indecisive or navigating undulating emotions? Maybe some feelings of frustration and irritability? The change in seasons will do this, especially the winds of Spring. Spring is the turning point from the quieter, inward energy of Yin/Winter to the more dynamic, outward energy of Yang/Spring. It’s the energy we’ve been waiting for but we can forget that change needs time and therefore the transition can be unsettling. The Liver organ in Chinese Medicine is the organ of Spring and it is in charge of the smooth flow of Qi/energy through the body. Emotional and physical stress can obstruct this flow of Qi, creating stagnation that can show up in the form of neck and shoulder tension, headaches and emotional distress with feelings of indecision, frustration, irritability and maybe even anger. Which are all healthy feelings if we allow ourselves to feel them & gentle movement can help us do this. It’s not about getting rid, it’s about observing, articulating, welcoming - when we stop resisting whats coming up for us, our Qi can continue to flow freely, and we, in-turn, can continue to move softly. Because after all, “the gentlest thing in the world overcomes the hardest thing in the world.” Happy Spring Equinox you lovely lot ✨ (Esperanza is a Spanish feminine given name, meaning “hope”, it carries strong connotations of optimism, faith, resilience, and renewal. Originating from the Latin sperare (to hope)) by @studio_acupuncture

Human resilience is a wonderful thing but we don’t need to suffer in silence ✨ As many of my friends will know its not uncommon for me to get my words a little jumbled when talking passionately about something, so excuse those parts… but here’s a little reminder of how effective acupuncture is in supporting us menstruating folk. It might seem like a slightly slower fix but the results are sustainable and good for mind & body. Trust us ✨ by @studio_acupuncture

Grateful to those that came and trusted this space with me last week ✨ Back here every Thursday. Treatments from £25, come say hi, you can book online 👆🏼When you work for yourself, there’s so much you have to do beyond and around your craft that sometimes you can feel a bit like a salmon swimming upstream, it can feel lonely and it can be easy to lose sight of your practice. You have to constantly put yourself out there and it can feel like a lot. But now we’re up and running and I got to practice my craft and it felt good. People came to the community studio that have wanted to have Acupuncture for a while but haven’t been able to access it, people paid varying amounts depending on their circumstances - people left, I think, lighter and with their feet a bit closer to the earth. & people were able to book to come back the following week. Couldn’t ask for more than that really! I deeply believe in this work.As always if you have any questions about how acupuncture can support you, message me and we can have a chat. Sending love for the week ahead - It’s still cold out, make sure you prioritise some rest and plenty of warm fluids x by @studio_acupuncture
