Studio Practice Special Exhibition, Seoul Design Week Objects rarely arrive fully formed. They emerge through sketches, models and prototypes, through making, testing, adjusting and starting again. 《Studio Practice》 brings together eight design studios based in Seoul, Tokyo, London, Bangkok, Paris and Hong Kong to look at what happens before an object is finished. Different in scale, materials and approach, they share an understanding of the studio as a place for experimentation, repetition and discovery. Here, ‘practice’ refers both to the work itself and the repeated act of doing it. MUKI for @fiirn_kr (2026) - MUKI, derived from the Finnish word for ‘mug,’ reinterprets this everyday object with a sense of calm, warmth, and quiet beauty. Within its minimal form, carefully considered proportions and a naturally comfortable grip come together to create an object that feels reassuring in the hand. More than a functional cup, MUKI embodies thoughtful comfort, gently placing the user at the center of the design. The lid helps keep warm drinks hot and protects them from dust. It can also be used as a coaster or a small dish, fitting naturally into everyday use. In 2021, we designed a modular cardboard sofa system called VOYAGE for the South Korean cardboard product brand @paperpopkorea . At the time, we felt that we had already designed quite a few cardboard products, and we were concerned that continuing in this path might label our studio as being 'specialized in cardboard design'—something we wanted to avoid. As a result, we chose not to include the sofa in our portfolio or share it on social media. However, over the years, thanks to the brand’s continued effort, VOYAGE has quietly made its mark and found unexpected success in the market. Now, we believe it’s the right time to finally introduce our cardboard sofa design, VOYAGE. - VOYAGE is a modular sofa system built with a corrugated cardboard frame. The basic setup consists of two key modules: an ottoman and a single-seater. By connecting two backless modules, you can create an ottoman. By combining one backless module with one module that includes a backrest, you get a single-seater. All modules are fully compatible with each other, allowing for flexible configurations. Both the ottoman and the single-seater are designed to be expandable. Additional modules can be added to either side countlessly, enabling the sofa to grow into a two-, three-, or even more seaters—adapting easily to different spatial and functional needs. Thanks to its internal grid-reinforced structure, each seat can support more than 100 kg with lasting durability. Targeted toward modern compact living spaces and temporary meeting or lounge areas, VOYAGE is designed to deliver comfort without occupying excessive space. Instead of enveloping the user with bulky cushioning, it provides a smaller footprint while still offering adequate support and relaxation. Because it's made of cardboard, the sofa is extremely lightweight and easy to move.
