One of the other names the ECHL team that ultimately became the Savannah Ghost Pirates was considering was the Savannah Specters, and this is what was presented for that name amongst the other first round concepts. Did you notice that it makes an “S”? taken in Savannah, GA by @studio_simon

When this alternate identity, developed here at Studio Simon (with the invaluable help of frequent collaborator @JimV.art), was unveiled back in late-October by the @HickoryCrawdads, things were pretty busy and I never got around to posting it—until now.

Things are still pretty busy, but I wanted to get this in under the 2024 wire and share this with you all before we flip the calendar over to 2025 later tonight. So here goes!

Why “Goat-Karts”? Well, as explained by Crawdads’ Assistant GM of Marketing, Ashley Salinas, in the team’s official press release:

Wagon making was one of the first major industries in Hickory, NC in the late-1800s/early-1900s, and over 1,000 wagons, with distinctive, dark green bodies, red wheels, and yellow trim, were made made per month in Hickory by The Piedmont Wagon Company.

Though these wagons were typically pulled by horses, they also had a model designed for children’s recreation that was pulled by goats, and called goat carts. So…

I was out of town last week when this new Columbus Clingstones identity for the relocating Mississippi Braves was unveiled, but now I’m back and here it is!

For those of you who are not pomologists, clingstones are peaches where the flesh of the fruit is harder to remove from the pit (or “stone”) than the other kind of peach, freestones, where the flesh is easier to remove from the pit. Freestones are easier to eat out of hand, so they’re what you would likely buy at your grocery store, whereas clingstones are slightly sweeter and ideal for cooking, baking, and/or canning.
