#repost @castellaniartmuseum Thank you to @right_clicksave for sharing the Castellani Art Museum’s new Digital Art Resource Library initiative.

As part of Hardwired: Foundational Works in Digital Art and the museum’s expanding Nanula Digital Art Gallery program, we are inviting artists, writers, curators, professors, historians, and technologists to recommend the books and publications that shaped their understanding of digital art.

Selected titles will become part of an evolving on-site library for students, faculty, museum visitors, and the broader community.

⚡ Hardwired: Foundational Works in Digital Art is now on view at the Castellani Art Museum. Join us for the opening reception on June 4, 2026.

💡🤖 Hardwired: Foundational Works in Digital Art opens soon at the Castellani Art Museum (@castellaniartmuseum) — and I’m incredibly proud to be curating this one.

This exhibition traces the roots of digital art long before AI and contemporary software. It looks at how artists began working with systems, repetition, video signals, reproduction technologies, and conceptual frameworks that ultimately shaped how we think about digital practice today.

Featuring works from CAM’s permanent collection — including Nam June Paik, Steina and Woody Vasulka, Sol LeWitt, Agnes Martin, Jenny Holzer, and more — Hardwired reframes digital art not as a tool-based movement, but as a shift in artistic thinking.

Opening April 22. More soon.

It’s been a while since I’ve posted here.

Over the past three years, I’ve helped develop a dedicated Digital Art Gallery at the Castellani Art Museum (@castellaniartmuseum) — creating institutional space for time-based, system-driven, and AI-influenced work.

Two exhibitions anchor this moment:

Ctrl+Alt+Dream: Surrealism Then and Now
📍 April 7 – July 26, 2026
Exhibition curators: @jessconatser @maryhelenistic

This show places Dalí, Magritte, Man Ray, Miró, and Masson from CAM’s permanent collection in dialogue with contemporary AI artists Inge Schuster (@inge.schuster) and David Szauder (@davidszauder). My focus for this exhibition centers on the evolution of automatism — from subconscious mark-making to text-to-image systems like DALL·E. The prompt becomes the brush. The algorithm becomes collaborator.

Alongside it:

Hardwired: Foundational Works in Digital Art
📍 April 22, 2026 – January 9, 2028

Featuring Nam June Paik, Steina and Woody Vasulka, Sol LeWitt, Agnes Martin, Jenny Holzer, Mark Kostabi, Bonnie Gordon, Rita DeWitt, and Robert Martin, Hardwired traces digital art as a conceptual evolution rooted in systems, signal, repetition, and technological engagement — long before AI entered the conversation.

This gallery isn’t about screens. It’s about establishing digital art as part of institutional history.

More soon.

Drop into the comments or DM me if you’d like to reconnect — I’d love to continue the conversation and hear 👂 what you’ve been up to. Xo

Matriclan, 2022 limited edition video print by Ndeyfatou Ceesay (@ndeyfatouceesay) 💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻available to collect via the Infinite Objects (@infiniteobjects) x Studio As We Are (@studioasweare): Women of the World Collection (link in bio).

Large Acrylic
$400

Artist Location: Benjul, The Gambia 🇬🇲

Inspired by pre-historic mythology of the maternal clans of the Serer people. (Origin - Gambia, Senegal, Mauritania.) - The Serer people believed in a female god ‘Pangol’ who ruled alongside female priestesses. The only way one could join these powerful clans is if they were blood relatives to the priestesses - which is why they were called the Matriclans.

Ndeyfatou Ceesay is an African artist from The Gambia. Inspired by mysticism, spirituality, and human connection; expressing herself through art. She adores the freedom of being able to create. A common theme that runs through much of her work is the power of women, and the efforts in society to control this power. In her West African culture, gender discourse is extremely patriarchal. Women are supposed to be pretty, meek and compliant. She is none of those things. Her art is a way to express her most authentic self and she hopes it speaks to you too.

Antarctica 01/Pink over Brown Bluff, 2021 limited edition video print by Marissa Sher (@whelkeye) 🧊🧊🧊available to collect via the Infinite Objects (@infiniteobjects) x Studio As We Are (@studioasweare): Women of the World Collection (link in bio).

Large Acrylic
$349

Artist Location: Brooklyn, NY

Antarctica 01 / Pink over Brown Bluff combines real footage of a glacial ice sample, suspended over a sunset at Brown Bluff, Antarctica. The piece is part of Capsules, a series documenting the changing landscapes of Iceland and Antarctica. The work likens miniature ice sculptures made from found materials to celestial bodies–nodding to the impermanence of life, and the dire shifts these frozen environments face due to climate change.

Marissa Sher is a Brooklyn-based video artist whose work blurs the lines between micro and macro. She builds sculptures from found and upcycled objects, then uses a combination of mechanical, projection, and visual effects techniques to film and composite them. Her digital art has been exhibited at Now Here Gallery, CADAF Paris, CADAF NYC, and in collections for ART POINT, Studio As We Are, National Geographic, and Lindblad Expeditions.

armor two, 2022 limited edition video print by Barbara Rehbehn (@barbararehbehn) 🎶🎶🎶 available to collect via the Infinite Objects (@infiniteobjects) x Studio As We Are (@studioasweare): Women of the World Collection (link in bio).

Large Acrylic
$450

Artist Location: Nuremberg, Germany 🇩🇪

The armor series explores protecting personal space and resources. It is the product of learning to create healthy boundaries. Historical photographs of women become an avatar brought into the present using digital technology. Armor Two tells the story of keeping the gift of music - visualised by seemingly moving lines and a rainbow of color - for yourself. Becoming strong and stable by putting ourselves first.

Barbara Rehbehn is a multi-disciplinary digital artist based in Germany. With a background in textile art and printmaking, Reh combines historical photography with digital painting and code visualization. Intense treatment for a panic disorder limited her interactions to those in digital space. This, in turn, brought her back to her former education in linguistics and computer science, as she put her art on the blockchain and started integrating generative elements.

Nygilia's love for African and Asian Art is very much relevant to her craft.
