What is STUDIO? A tiny artist led space in York, created by us, Lydia + Zak, the two people behind Rock Garden Ceramics. We built STUDIO as a place for our ceramics, but also as a space to share with other artists, makers and creative people. A place for handmade work, rotating exhibitions, workshops, demonstrations, live music, good coffee and conversations around art. A place to learn, share, make, meet people or simply spend a little time. Everything we do here is small, personal and rooted in collaboration. A small space for craft, connection + community. by @studiobyrockgarden

Our online pottery shop is now open! Alongside our restaurant commissions, we’ve been making a small collection of ceramics for you. From everyday coffee cups to one-off vases, each piece has been made by hand in our studio, with unique forms and finishes available in very limited quantities. It’s not often we have the opportunity to release work online, so we’re really excited to share this collection with you. Set your alarms! Tuesday 3rd November, 7am. Our online shop will be open for just 48 hours, closing Thursday 5th November at 7am. rockgardenceramics.co.uk ♡ by @studiobyrockgarden

A little look at what our students made at last night’s slab vase workshop. ♡ Every vase was made by a beginner, each with its own shape, character and decoration. At STUDIO, we keep our workshops small by design. This allows us to offer individual guidance, giving everyone the time and space to learn, experiment and create something of their own. Alongside our regular pottery workshops, we also welcome guest artists and makers to share their skills. Explore our upcoming workshops through our website, with more Christmas dates to be announced soon. Mark Ibson | Featured Artist at STUDIO We welcome Mark Ibson as our ninth Featured Artist of the year. Every few weeks, our gallery welcomes a new artist, offering them the space to present their work in their own way. For this exhibition, Mark has created a collection of paintings inspired by the colours inside our gallery on Scarcroft rd. His work is available to purchase at STUDIO and will be on display until 16 November. Join us this evening for the exhibition preview, a chance to meet Mark and connect with fellow artists and creatives. Friday 16 October | 6–8pm We call STUDIO a micro gallery for a reason. Expect a snug gathering, and perhaps bring a jacket for when the conversation spills outside. Open Friday to Sunday. Free entry. Everyone welcome. ♡ by @studiobyrockgarden

MEET OUR NEXT FEATURED ARTIST | MARK IBSON Ahead of his exhibition at STUDIO, we visited Mark Ibson at The Blacksmith’s Shop in Bishop Wilton, a former family blacksmith’s forge nestled at the foot of the Yorkshire Wolds. Mark is a self-taught artist, painter and furniture restorer who has transformed the historic workshop into a gallery and creative space. It’s a remarkable place, filled with artwork, antique furniture, collected objects and the tools of generations past. What we particularly loved was the sense of community within the building. Mark shares the space with fellow creatives and collectors, each bringing their own knowledge, interests and appreciation for things made by hand. We’re delighted to welcome Mark as our next Featured Artist at STUDIO. Join us this Friday for the opening of his exhibition, with an opportunity to meet Mark and explore his work. EXHIBITION PREVIEW Friday 16 October | 6–8pm STUDIO by Rock Garden 9 Scarcroft Road, York Free to visit. Everyone welcome. ♡ Photography by @_lydiacotton by @studiobyrockgarden
