This work turns my perspective of multiculturalism and having a “lack of cultural identity” into a mirror of the world. The cultural confusion of my own mirrors societies own lack of identity in various areas where people become followers. Followers exist all over social media, following trends. Followers exist in the art world itself, where commerciality and persona is sought after by galleries and collectors. Ancient and modern empires thrive on maintaining a sheep like community of followers. All of these symbols are embedded into this piece and come together with a faceless subject representing us all.

“Made in China” - acrylic painting & digital animation, a piece about identity manufacturing.
On the surface, it looks at luxury fashion made abroad and worn in fashion capitals. But beneath, it’s about how our sense of self gets shaped, assembled, and influenced.
With NYC being home now after being raised in Hong Kong, it becomes an obvious backdrop for its representation of mixed cultural identity and fashion history.
This piece uses fashion manufacturing as a metaphor for the way people today are ‘made’ across borders, ‘sourced’ in one place, and shaped by another. by @studioevangelia
