In the year end rush, we missed our wrap up for 2024. As we reflect on the journey so far this year, it’s hard to believe how much has already unfolded. 2024 has truly been a year of milestones, recognition, and growth for us. From innovative design projects to prestigious nominations and incredible wins, this year has reaffirmed our unwavering commitment to shaping the future of architecture with purpose, passion, and precision. We are thrilled to announce that Studio Hinge has been honored with multiple awards and shortlistings this year like the #ad100india by @archdigestindia magazine, @architizerawards by @architizer in NYC and Chengdu, China, the #hot100 by @architectandinteriorsindia , @theplan_award by @theplanmag from Milan, @dna_paris , @createurs_design_awards from Paris and @archello awards from the Netherlands. These awards celebrate not just the spaces we create, but the ethos we live by—designing with a deep respect for context, sustainability, and human experience. These accolades are not just a testament to our team’s talent, dedication, and creativity, but also to the wonderful collaborators, clients, and communities who have been part of our journey. Cheers to another wholesome year! 2025, we can’t wait for you! [studio hinge, awards, recognition, 2024, year end reflections, architecture, design] by @studiohinge
Timber from one side. Foliage from the other.
The Butterfly Blob, a concept for the Sales & Marketing Suite at Peninsula Salsette 27, Byculla.
Triangular timber fins are cladded on to a facade that undulates organically within treetops. One face of each fin is mirror-polished stainless steel. Depending on where you stand and how you walk past, timber give way to reflections of the trees around, so the building seems to appear and disappear as you move. The system started as wardrobe cladding on an earlier project, The Blu House. Here it’s tested at the scale of a building.

Earlier this month I was at #pulse2026 in Indore, organised by @the.glsn where I spoke about the Forest of Knowledge, our library for the Cricket Club of India. I shared the stage with @andblackdesignstudio and @harpreet.kaur.sapra in a session on libraries, makerspaces and playscapes, moderated by Anku Sharma. Most conferences I attend are rooms full of architects talking to each other. Pulse brought school owners, educators, architects and furniture designers together, and I spent far more of those two days listening than I expected to. @fis_racecourse put the urgency simply. Children starting school now will graduate around 2040, into a world where machines can answer almost anything. Answers will be abundant. Good questions will be rare. As they put it, begin with the experience, not the building. Thank you @the.glsn for the invitation. To the educators here: what would you want your ideal learning space to let children do that your current one doesn’t? #LearningSpaces #SchoolDesign #LibraryDesign #EducationalArchitecture #Pulse2026 by @studiohinge
A bungalow turned timber experience centre · Ritikaa Wood · 8/8 Domlur, Bangalore · 2,000 sq ft · Completed This reel walks through the full project, a bungalow renovation in Domlur where the original walls are retained, plaster skin peeled back to reveal original brickwork, with a new layer of woodwork inserted. A showroom for engineered timber construction, designed to evoke the warmth, comfort and familiarity of a vernacular home. Arriving across a pond and through a pivoting door, you see a central courtyard with natural skylight. Timber columns, wood-lined ceilings and a floor of mixed wood species occupies the sunken court. A sample wall doubles as a room divider between the courtyard and lounge. Large openings and outdoor decking links the interiors to the garden. Sustainable design through reuse, not rebuilding. Strengthening connections between spaces · RitikaaWood Experience Centre, Bangalore · 7/8 Doors, windows, decking and cladding take their natural places, as they would in a residential space. The office and admin areas occupy what was once the garage. Larger fenestrations across the existing shell: a corner window in the lounge, folding louvered doors for the office, full-height glazing, a timber deck along the garden side allowed connection through the entire space. Each door is accompanied by a glass or a porous screen that allows for a visual link between the adjoining spaces.   Every opening provided opportunity for more openness and connectivity between indoor and outdoor, and we took them all.

The screen as sample library · Ritikaa Wood Experience Centre, Bangalore · 6/8 In keeping with the treatment of the gallery as domestic space, rooms open up onto each other as they would in a home. The courtyard gives on to a lounge, or living room, lightly screened from it by an installation made up of tactile material samples on steel pins in a timber frame, each asking to be rotated. The lounge is intentionally residential in scale, sequence and furniture. A slatted timber ceiling folds parametrically along the length of the room. The meeting room is presented as a dining space accessed through the living room via sliding-folding louvered doors.   Client: RitikaaWood @ritikaawood Design team: Pravir Sethi @pravirsethi , Chintan Zalavadiya @chintu_zalavadiya Main contractor: Shivanshi Constructions @shivanshiconstructions Photography: @shamanthpatilphotography   #studiohinge #interiorarchitecture #experiencecentre #timberscreen #showroomdesign by @studiohinge
What was kept, what was cut, what was added · Ritikaa Wood Experience Centre, Bangalore · 5/8 Cutting and carving into, and then extending the existing building, we were happy to have @manjunath.bl on our team, whose 3d illustrations of demolition and new structural intervention helped visualise the process.   Kept: the minimum existing load-bearing walls of the bungalow, Cut: enlarged doors and windows, widened internal connections between rooms, a new skylight in the existing roof.   Added: Timber, as structure/ cladding material here: ceilings, decking, cladding and handrails. A new spiral stair in steel and timber. Timber posts and rafters around the sunken court, fastened with steel connectors, and a glazed timber lantern above the skylight.

Two kinds of skylights · Ritikaa Wood Experience Centre, Bangalore · 4/8   The sunken internal courtyard is supported on 4 timber columns at the corners, and timber-lined ceilings rise to the opening. Over the courtyard, a glazed timber lantern sits on the roof and brings daylight down through the opening.   A backlit stretch ceiling panel lights up the seating space in a room beyond the courtyard. The ceiling for this space curves up increasing the height of the room.   Client: RitikaaWood @ritikaawood Design team: Pravir Sethi @pravirsethi , Chintan Zalavadiya @chintu_zalavadiya Main contractor: Shivanshi Constructions @shivanshiconstructions Photography: @shamanthpatilphotography   #studiohinge #skylight #daylighting #lightingdesign #timberarchitecture by @studiohinge
Road to courtyard in four moves: gate, pond, verandah, door · Ritikaa Wood Experience Centre, Bangalore · 3/8 The idea for the entrance is borrowed from the vernacular home of the region. From the road, you see through to a verandah. You step on the timber deck steps surrounded by a koi pond to enter. The entrance porch (Jaggali) allows a pause before entering the home along with the seating. In the doorway, a pivoting timber door, glazed above and boarded below, turns the view towards the courtyard before you step in. From bungalow to courtyard house: the thinking behind the RitikaaWood Experience Centre · 2/8 We chose adaptive reuse over a new building, extending the client’s philosophy of sustainable luxury. The house was kept, opened up and organised around a new skylit courtyard. The starting point was an ordinary bungalow: small rooms inside a load-bearing shell (slides 2 and 3). The references were drawn from the vernacular homes of the region: the jaggali or entrance verandah with built-in benches, the internal courtyard held by timber posts, the reflecting pond (slide 4). The proposed plan carves into the shell and extends outward from it. Rooms are connected along axes that cross at a new courtyard, cut open to the sky (slide 5). The exploded axonometric shows how the pieces stack (slide 7). RitikaaWood Experience Centre, Bangalore: a bungalow reworked as a home for timber · 1/8 An existing bungalow in a quiet residential neighbourhood in Domlur, reimagined as a 2,000 sq ft experience centre for RitikaaWood, who provide high-end construction solutions in wood. We chose adaptive reuse over a new building, extending the client’s philosophy of sustainable luxury. The house was kept, opened up and organised around a new skylit courtyard. Over the next eight posts: the thinking, the entrance, the courtyard, the skylights, the lounge, the edges and the structure.
