With Winter on its way, it’s nice to remember summer, thinking about textures, scents and moments that form a place.

The never ending rhythm of waves of the ocean, the sea breeze shaping bushes and landscapes over time, the coral rocks which date back millions of years standing still and mighty in place, while we eat dinner with the family - all of it there today but seemingly distant from where I am now.

Currently we are working on a new outdoor collection and some of these memories will weave into the design. Looking forward to the launch in Spring. by @studiojoaherrenknecht

ORA designed by Studio Joa Herrenknecht

ORA is a table mirror object, made from antique mirror and a solid marble base. The aged mirror reflects time, bringing together traces of the past with the instant present.

Available in two sizes, round and oval, with vintage mirror, or silver mirror.

Originally presented at The Journey, Ventura Lambrate
during Salone 2016 in Milan.

Happy birthday to our design collective MATTER of COURSE

Founded 5 years ago to empower female designers from Berlin- all 11 designers and founding members are still part of the collective today. It is important to understand that we all have our individual and independent studios, but that we like to come together, share and discuss our work and enjoy showing new work together - like at @berlindesignweek this year.

PILOU rethinks the classic sofa bed by making it feel visually lightweight. Designed to offer the comfort of a real bed within a compact footprint, the elevated base, slender metal legs and thin armrests, create an airy silhouette.

Available as 1.5, 2.5 or 3-seater PILOU is designed to adapt to flexible spaces — whether as a sofa or a guest bed it will integrate well using a premium fold-out mechanism, the switch is done within seconds. For storage the chaise lounge and single pouf have integrated storage space.

Thoughtful from every angle, it is made to look as nice from the back as it looks from the front.

SUNRISE edition designed by Studio Joa Herrenknecht for @ambivalenz_design

SUNRISE is a special edition for the Fläpps folding table and furniture collection by Ambivalenz, Berlin. It is hung flat on the wall for space efficiency.

Originally created as part of our booth design for Ambivalenz at IMM Cologne, this print edition brings a warm colourful graphic design to the playful and practical Fläpps system.

Available as a set of three — shelf, desk and chair — or sold individually.

SMILLA sofa designed by Studio Joa Herrenknecht

SMILLA is produced by our client Werther - the 4th generation furniture manufacture from Werther, near Bielefeld/ Germany.

What makes Werther’s manufacture so special to me is that Lea Oberwelland and her team are highly skilled and flexible. They can realize any textile and color choices for the sofa, because every piece is really custom made on-site.

This said the feet of SMILLA can be coloured in almost any color, and the upholstery can be chosen from one of the largest textile selections I have seen so far, including premium leathers. You can literally hand-pick your textile on-site at the workshop.

For our standard SMILLA textile range Lea and I chose the fabric collection Taro and Monza by Dutch textile company De Ploeg. A great match, as De Ploeg also has a long standing history and believes in quality. Founded 1923 in NL they are about as old as Werther. Quality that lasts.

ONDA designed by Studio Joa Herrenknecht

ONDA is a table lamp developed around the idea of wavelike movement: making the direction of light adjustable through soft touch. The lamp shade can be moved in all directions through a ball joint in centre, allowing the light to be directed to where it’s needed. By touching the lamp stand, the light intensity is regulated (touch sensor).
The combination of materials gives the lamp a clean, architectural character, while the dimmable LED and touch sensor keep the interaction simple.
ONDA was first presented as a prototype at Salone Satellite, Milan and received the German Design Award 2018.
