This Paddington Cottage Proves That the Best Additions Ask Only What Is Necessary

Cascade House by John Ellway Architects is an early 1900s timber cottage on the western side of one of Paddington's many hills. The brief was simple: a place for kids to play independently but just in sight, and a new addition where the family could gather for meals and games.

The result is a minimal intervention, where screened doors slide away to a grassy courtyard and late afternoon sun reflects off the pool waterline up onto the raked ceiling above.

Had the joy of being interviewed by the stellar @emmakatewilson_art for her Creative Parents substack. We spoke about making, mothering and the blur between the two.

The full piece is up now - link in my bio 🤍

THE OBJECT SHOW for @sydneycontemporary
@arts__matter X @theevehotel
Curated by @tommymesk_

Six rooms, each holding its own conversation between art, design, and object.

Alter Pendant found its place within “LET THERE BE LIGHT,” among makers drawn, like me, to what light reveals and what it lets rest in shadow.

Thank you for having me.

Still taking this in. Three works shortlisted for IDEA 2026 @ausdesignreview Awards. Alter Sconce, Alter Pendant and Bark, in the Rising category.

Everything starts by hand, mostly by feel. Sand, metal, fire, ceriops dye, water, fibre, beeswax. A material finding its own form, and me learning to get out of its way. There’s no formula for that. Just attention, and the discipline to follow what the material wants to become rather than what I think it should be.

To have that process recognised means more than I can easily put into words.

Thank you to the judges, for seeing the work for what it is.

And congratulations to everyone shortlisted in Rising, and across every category. So much talent in the room this year. Grateful to be counted among them🤎

UNLEASHED+ at @hota_gallery,
curated by @artisanqld.

Before us, there was matter.

Metal. Mineral. Fibre. Wax.

Materials that have travelled with us from the beginning, shaped by fire, water, pressure and the hand.

I’m interested in what happens when these ancient materials meet the present. When nature leaves its imprint in cast metal, when the hand remains in textile, when material holds warmth and memory.

A meeting of the organic and the constructed. The ancient and the new. Art and design.

UNLEASHED+ brings together a group of artists, designers and makers exploring these relationships in their own ways.

Very happy to be part of it.

Thank you @artisanqld, @hota_gallery and curator @kimberlystokes.

Between.
On view at @kellilundberg.art curated by @tiffanyjade_writer for MDW x NGV.

Between holds light at its edges.
Not contained, but revealed.

Cast aluminium planes, formed in sand.
Surface holding the memory of touch.

It can stand alone.
Or extend outward.
Becoming arrangement rather than object.

Light arrives through overlap.
Through nearness.
Through what is held apart.

Between material and wall,
presence and space,
something quietly opens.

Some objects carry the memory of slow, handmade processes shaped by chaos.

Not long after I exhibited the Alter Ceriops pendants, I received an email from a set designer in Hollywood.

They needed two pieces.
Very quickly.
Just before Christmas.

The shades were hand-dyed at home with ceriops tagal and iron in a 6 month old aged vat.

The bronze spheres were cast in a rush, with a little improvisation and a lot of generosity.

I arrived at the foundry with homemade Anzac biscuits and beer, asking if I could move ahead in the queue and cast them myself.

The sand behaved differently that day and the forms came out slightly imperfect. In hindsight, perhaps better for it. At the time, deeply stressful.

They were sandblasted, wired, assembled, crated and shipped.

Then held in customs during the LA fires.

Eventually, they arrived.

And now, seeing them quietly inhabit season two of Beef on Netflix along with Carey Mulligan and Oscar Isaac feels surreal.

Small objects made by many hands, finding their way further than I ever expected. by @studiokaytar

Molten metal meets sand mould. The pour is precise, the process ancient, and the result, entirely its own.

@studiokaytar is deep in the work.
