Hi, I’m Kara, founder of Studio Kosma. We design spaces shaped by story and soul, grounded in a sense of place, and brought to life through thoughtful details that make a home, restaurant, or hotel feel truly alive.

Swipe for a few of the values that guide us.

And if you’re new here, welcome. I’m so glad you’re here!

To see a project featured in Architectural Digest is an honor.
To see it shared across multiple editions is something else entirely.

Excited and grateful to see Sea Cliff now featured in Architectural Digest Italia.

We reimagined the entire home from the inside out, reworking the floorplan so the interiors balance an airy, modern sensibility with the grounded textures of Northern California - creating a space that feels both softly luxurious and truly lived in.

What a joy to see the projects we care about so deeply continue to be celebrated. Thank you @ad_italia @archdigest

You know that feeling when you walk into a room and everything just makes sense?

The furniture belongs with the architecture. The materials belong with the house. Nothing is trying too hard. And nothing feels forced.

Not matching. Not perfect. Just meant to be.

That’s when you know. taken in Los Angeles, California by @studiokosma

The words I’ve been waiting my whole career to hear: “I want a beauty room.”

Say less.

7 artists who have been living in my saved folder for an unreasonable amount of time. I keep waiting for the perfect project, the perfect wall, the client who says, “absolutely yes”. Until then, sharing a few favorites here because they’re too good to keep to myself. Artists tagged throughout 🤍 by @studiokosma

The best spaces aren’t memorable because of one big design moment.
It’s when the architecture, furniture, materials - all of the pieces - just belong together.
Not matching, not perfect, just in conversation.
That’s when it gets really really good. taken in Los Angeles, California by @studiokosma

A very good argument for choosing one beautiful material and letting it do its thing.

One of the reasons I’m so drawn to natural materials is that they already have a life long before we ever bring them into a home.

Stone has been forming for millions of years. Wood shows seasons of growth. Clay gets shaped and fired. And none of it is perfectly uniform - which is kind of the point.

Then we live with these materials and they change again.

Wood gets a little beat up and develops a patina. Stone softens with use. Linen gets rumpled and relaxed. They start to carry evidence of us too.

I don’t really want a home to look exactly the same ten years from now. I want the good stuff to get better - a little worn in, a little less perfect, and a lot more personal.

That’s what I love most about natural materials. They’re allowed to age and take on a new shape. taken in Los Angeles, California by @studiokosma

A little earthy, a lot of texture, a pinch of quirk. Just how we like it.

This summer, in no particular order.
A hometown Fourth of July. New projects taking shape. Materials, showrooms, and things catching my eye. Weekends at The Huntington with baby (the East Side parenting hack). A few dinners out. Celebrating my first birthday as a mama.

A full year. A really wonderful summer. by @studiokosma

When the desk needs an arch, you build one.
