Painting a memory of Dartmoor, one of my favourite places in the world. This time we were able to share it with our two girls. My youngest gets declared that ‘Mummy, this is the countryside. We’re not in London anymore’ and she was right.

Hello 👋

I don’t know if I’m great at introductions, but I think autocorrect has an opinion as it changed that opener to
‘hell’. I wouldn’t say it’s quite at those depths, but an intro post is certainly well overdue.

I’m Emily, nice to meet you. Here are some of my paintings. There’s lots of info on the carousel, and I share snippets of work in progress on stories.

I’d love your help with some inspo for my new collection of abstract landscapes. Drop me a comment with somewhere you remember feeling free?

Perhaps it’s a festival or a recent trip, or somewhere you went when you were little. Mine is walking through central London - I feel free in the anonymity amongst the bustle, and the sense that you could take the day anywhere. I also have such a big sense of freedom in Devon’s Dartmoor National Park - those rolling hills and moss covered tarns, and stopping for sandwiches high above.

‘Where We Wandered, 3’ original painting

One of 11 abstract botanical studies, painted from the landscapes my young daughters’ footsteps crossed this summer. Each piece in the series traces a place we visited, but beneath the colour they are studies of how motherhood feels: tender, exhausting and full of wonder.

Painting frames and prepping boards

Selling a painting is just one part of the final process. I want people to be able to enjoy their painting as soon as they receive it, and so I put a lot of time and thought into how they’ll display it.

I’ve been experimenting with a few different ideas, from bespoke framing with high quality anti-reflective glass, to custom mounts and painted frames, to handmade tray frames. There are so many options and I really want to put a lot of time and effort to make it just right for people who’ve collected my paintings.

This pair of floral paintings has found its new home in Tuscany. Two halves of a whole for a mother and daughter.

New homes for recent work

‘Summer Blooms’ red and blue will be winging their way to their new homes in Melbourne, Australia this week.

This pair of paintings started as an exploration of summer evenings and the peaceful calm that descends once the day is done. I love imagining it settling into its new spot on the other side of the world.

‘Somerset Echinaceas, From Before’

Painted after a scorching trip to Somerset with my young family, these echinaceas stood tall under a heavy summer sky, petals drooping naturally, faces still lifted to the light. They seemed to hold something of early motherhood: rising each day, reaching for joy even when it’s hard.

A study in resilience, painted for anyone who knows what it means to hold their head up and keep blooming in their own way.

These boards were calling out for something bold, and a trip to @omvedgardens inspired me to size up one of my smaller floral studies.

Think big.

I’ve used acrylic, oil pastel and @edwardbulmerpaint’s ‘Lute’ for this triptych, layering up the paint and pulling it back to give a soft focus.

They’re almost there and I’m very pleased to say I’ve been commissioned to paint more. I can’t wait. Drop me a DM if you’ve got wall space looking for something similar
