Here’s some close ups of Here, Still on view through Saturday 6/13 with artists Francois Xavier De Costerd, Leah Gauthier, Sara Jones, Karen Rosenkrantz, Liz Shepherd and Andrea Wenglowskyj.

We all met at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts Boston. We moved through a collaborative, interdisciplinary program where each artist explored ideas on their own terms and in their own media. Photographers painted, painters performed, sculptors printed—it was a time to push boundaries within a space grounded in rigorous academic discourse.

As the photographer in the group, I was both entranced and intimidated by the talent of my peers. I felt most at home behind a camera, in the quiet of a darkroom or working in a lab, while those around me pursued studio experimentation and material mastery with a kind of fearlessness that I found deeply inspiring. I came to understand that collaborating with friends—circling shared ideas together—was how something meaningful and lasting could emerge as an art practice.

Here, Still grows out of that way of working. It reflects twenty-ish years of making, meeting on Zoom, sharing ideas and works in progress, asking for help, all while living our lives.

“The work asks what it means to stay in relation—to ideas, to materials, to one another—without closure.” When we wrote the curatorial statement, we had not yet seen anyone’s finished work. Now, sitting in Studio Nine Dee, I am brought back to those years in Boston and, unsurprisingly, find myself in awe of the work everyone has created and of the uncanny (or not) connections.

Friends, I’m thrilled to share that we’re opening a small but mighty group show in the Chelsea, Manhattan area at @studioninedee with Canadian artists @missbiliana and @jenniferjeanmawby on December 4th from 2-8 pm.
