𝖏𝖎𝖜𝖆𝖓𝖌 𝖘𝖔𝖓𝖌𝖘 𝖋𝖔𝖗 𝖙𝖍𝖊 (𝖚𝖓)𝖋𝖆𝖒𝖎𝖑𝖎𝖆𝖗 for @esplanadesingapore's Foreword 2026
by nor, C2AC and Rifdi bin Rosly

Thank you everyone for attending our performances last Wednesday evening!

"Suatu hari nanti,
pastikan bercahaya
Pintu akan terbuka
kita langkah bersama
Di situ kita lihat
Bersinarlah hakikat
Debu jadi permata
Hina jadi mulia"

We went from dizzying dancefloors to sobering cab rides home. Heartbreaking first dates to karaoke Sundays in a Singaporean Malay household. We grieved together at a funeral then later asked if our voices mattered at all on National Day. Finally, we went back to the dancefloor. This time in celebration of our existence with our friends and chosen family in the audience.

I can't thank both @r5q1000 and @rifdi.photo enough for saying yes. Thank you for bringing to life what was previously only a fantasy. You brought so much semangat and magic! We were BISING af and I wouldn't have it any other way!

Thank you @seansbookshop for creating this gorgeous custom Pierrot look + unifying ruffs for Rifqi, Rifdi and I. Thank you Taufiq for your suggestions to the garment. The Studio Ong crew for attending our test performance - @jonathantyl, @jeff.juff, @kamiliah.b and also @jordanisalright!

Thank you @aliahisreading for having me in mind and programming us for Foreword 2026! Thank you to the Esplanade sound team + showmakers for making us sound and look good.

Lastly, @pnansi for suggesting that I perform my poems with a jiwang band a while back! Thank you also for inspiring me with the DJ + Guitarist combo during your performance of 'We Make Spaces Divine ft Dey' last year! You truly are the blueprint 🫡

Both 'homesick' by @ethosbooks and 'Ginsberg, sing me a jiwang song' by @afterimage.press are Culture Pass eligible titles. So you BETTER get yours! Support local literature!

Studio Ong turns TWO this October!

Hi friends, I'm nor, a multidisciplinary artist, poet and 1/6 of Studio Ong. Over the next few weeks we will be doing throwbacks to our past activations!

Today I'm taking all of you back to February 2024 when we had Test Drive Vol #1, a night of spoken word poetry featuring Aaryan Haider Khan, Ilyas Lukman and Zeha. We hosted close to 20 of yall! This was right before members of Studio Ong decided to formalise our explorations as a collective. We had a space, I was working on my homesick manuscript and I wanted to ground the space in queer energy. The rest of the studio supported this event by setting the mood of the space with lighting and art direction.

Right after, Studio Ong realised that Test Drive could work as a modality for us to find community and kinship through creative work. It works like this: A studio member becomes the main driver and activates the studio space through artwork in progress, workshop, or gathering. The rest of the studio supports the main driver through sustained conversation/questions/invitations. Sometimes, this support also translates to artistic collaboration.

Question for the culture: Should we do another spoken word night at Studio Ong before the year ends? by @studioong.sg

Scent Club is a scent-driven gathering for fragrance lovers and curious noses alike — think book club, but with perfume. Each session explores a theme through scent. For this session, members will bring a fragrance that resonates with the idea of the Sun, share the stories behind their pick, and immerse themselves in a world of olfactory storytelling. Expect intimate conversations, unexpected scent pairings, and a fragrance swap or sampling ritual to take something new home. A space for scent as mood, memory, and meaning.
