A team of architects led by women of color designing homes, offices, restaurants, and other delightful spaces in the San Francisco Bay Area
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Attention to detail is essential in crafting memorable spaces for our clients especially when designing custom staircases. This sculptural stair features treads composed of cross-cut “end-grain” oak tiles. Each end-grain tile was engineered using thin slices of beams reclaimed from a dismantled Midwestern barn. The oak tile treads were then wrapped in blackened steel surround. Because this stair connected 4 levels of the home, we wanted to do as much as we could to reduce sound transfer between floors while maintaining the floating skeletal stair structure, which allowed light and line of sight to filter through both the short and long side of the linear stair run. We chose to place acoustic panels on the underside of each oak tread, which appear as small slots cut out of the oak tiles with felt backing for noise absorption.

This project was executed by Caroline Nassif while she was a Project Architect at Lundberg Design.

A renovation fueled by friendship. ✨

Keith and Andrew, longtime friends of the Architect, Caroline Nassif of @studioovo , wanted their first home together to reflect their playful, social life: colorful, flexible, and anything but generic. Their friendship began 13 years ago at an adult summer camp and has since included many dinner parties and game nights. The team approached the renovation as a deeply personal collaboration rooted in trust.

The 1921 Oakland Craftsman had other ideas. Steep access, out-of-plumb surfaces, and surprise leaks shaped the process as much as the program did. The team rebuilt carefully, adjusting the envelope and water management along the way, while embracing the 1921 cottage's warm modernist character through texture and color. Today, the home functions exactly as imagined: a welcoming hub for friends and future family, with a personality to match its owners.

Now featured in the June 2026 issue of @shltr_mag, and a special thank you to @zahidsardardesign for bringing it to the pages of SHLTR.

Nari, located in San Francisco’s Hotel Kabuki, is a celebration of Chef Pim Techamuanvivit’s personal background and memories. Dining at Nari is a blend of familial tradition and innovation. In the same spirit, each tabletop is crafted from engineered wood flooring designed to withstand daily spice and curry stains. Thai numerals laser-etched into the wood have faded elegantly over the years to create a timeless ancient look.

This project was executed by Caroline Nassif while she was a Project Architect at Lundberg Design.

Lux Capital’s San Francisco clubhouse unfolds vertically, loosely echoing the city’s topography, with floors named after SF landmarks. The design culminates on the top floor, Twin Peaks, where an expansive, flexible room is anchored by a custom 22-foot walnut table on blackened-steel plate legs split into two 11-foot sections.

The table began as extraordinary 30-foot-long walnut slabs salvaged by @arborica_ca. At the Lundberg Design Shop, our longtime friends and collaborators milled, shaped, and joined the slabs, preserving their remarkable scale and live edges as they took their final form.

Despite its size, the table was designed to move. Concealed rollers allow it to shift as the room transforms between meetings, collaborative work, dinners, and events.

Seen here mid-process at the shop, with some sense of just how enormous those slabs really were.

At Lux Capital’s San Francisco clubhouse, the kitchen and dining area opens directly onto a rear garden, extending the space outdoors for meetings, lunches, and evening gatherings.

Working with @GardenistaSF on the landscape design, we layered mature trees, cacti, and potted greenery around the lounge seating to create a garden that feels both lush and distinctly Californian.

Inside, a custom walnut shelf fabricated by our longtime friends at the Lundberg Design Shop (@svsealoom, @tarmanar, and @crackjam) carries the material language of the space through to the kitchen. Along with the custom furniture, signage, lighting, and FF&E throughout the clubhouse, these details were all part of creating a space that could move easily between work and hospitality.

This is Lux Capital's first San Francisco space, and it's built to run more like a clubhouse than an office. Set inside a six-story, steel-clad industrial building in SoMa, it gives founders a place to work and meet during the day, then shifts into a venue for dinner parties, cocktails, and larger gatherings at night. The New York venture capital firm's hospitality-driven space blends residential warmth with the polish of a private club. Studio Ovo led workplace design through on-site project management for the full build-out.

Here's a behind-the-scenes look at the installation on the ground and middle floors. A sophisticated material palette gives these settings for work and play the polish of an intimate event venue. Throughout the project, artwork sourced from local galleries further grounds the space in the Bay Area's creative community.

Designed for everything from intimate homecooked meals to catered private chef events, the dining table can expand or contract to fit a small dinner or a full crowd. The idea is to let the evening move naturally - mingling in the kitchen, settling in for dinner, then shifting into movie marathons or board games. The walnut-disc pendants overhead are from @pablodesignssf, hung as a nebulous array rather than one central fixture, so the table underneath is always free to move with the room. It's a small detail that echoes the bigger idea running through the whole house: flexible by design.

We worked together with our clients to select decorative light fixtures that would bring a distinctive character to each space in the house, and these pendants are among the most personal. Stainless steel mesh pendants from @a.emotionallight in Spain hang in the stairwell, each one carefully molded and then spray-painted by hand to create a unique pattern of porosity.

The handrail required more problem-solving. A winding stair meant a standard rail would look clunky, so we worked with @mnbuild to come up with an elegant solution: a recessed handrail with integrated lighting, moved to the opposite wall to clear the window. Mocked up on site, we worked collaboratively with the GC and the code inspector to make it not only beautiful, but code-compliant.

This kitchen used to be closed off from the rest of the house, a separate room where no one could gather. Not anymore. Opening it into the living and dining space was the client’s request from day one, and now it's the center of a house built for hosting. By removing a wall, the kitchen, dining, and living areas became one open area, built for the dinner parties and game nights that regularly draw a crowd of 20.

Walnut casework by @mnbuild in Shinnoki veneer wraps the room, paired with leathered absolute black granite countertops and @Miele appliances. A custom, vertical-grooved marble backsplash by @mcplusdesignstudio transitions into a honed surface above the counter, enabling flush outlets and easy cleanup.

Small room, big tricks.

Recessed ceiling lighting and a run of hidden wall shelving make this powder room read larger than it is, a smart solution for a room that didn't even exist before this renovation. A @concretecollaborative terrazzo countertop, concrete wall tile, and basalt floor ground the space in deep charcoal and navy hues, with a black vessel sink from @blubathworks and a wall sconce by @rbw_studio.

When the client's entire wish list starts with "I want a spa bath," you deliver.

At our Lakeshore Residence, scalloped marble from @cletile wraps the primary bath from floor to ceiling, catching light from two skylights that flood the room with daylight. A freestanding tub and stainless-steel fixtures from @blubathworks were chosen for durability. Flamed basalt underfoot, Pietra Serena limestone at the vanity, and walnut cabinetry create a warm, elevated, and refined palette.

One brief. One very happy client.✨
