Strange feeling wrapping up two decades of artwork for further time in storage and saying goodbye to my small but important space @rasklstudio (who have supported me and my work in many different ways for a long time and who have my deepest thanks).

I still believe in the works I made and the direction and expansion of thinking and seeing the process created, however when I see it all like this, a storage problem to be solved, it’s also rather depressing.

HOLY POP!
Somerset House, London

Curated by Tory Turk Holy Pop a group exhibition celebrating the world of modern shrines. How community is created through the ritual idolisation of celebrities in an increasingly secular and individualistic society.

Pleasure to have my work, Jim Morrison, 1987 included in this exhibition. The sculptural work is one of six recreations of the fan made bust of Morrison left at his grave in Paris. One bust for each of the six years it was present on the grave until it was stolen (and recently resurfaced by police). Each bust is an amalgamation from hundreds of photos of the bust in its various states of decay and defacement.

Thanks to @tory_turk @clairecatterall and all @somersethouse and to original fabricator of the works @studiopeterjevans #benhoughton and the private collector for the lending of the piece.

After a period of hibernation, my installation The Hop has been expertly planned and installed @theboxplymouth by the brilliant Dan Adams @datechnical and his team Cameron Simcock @formandmatter.uk and Peter Evans @studiopeterjevans They worked alongside the superb technicians at The Box. The project of bringing The Hop to The Box, which included a local authority planning application, was led and managed by the incredible @jodie.bishop of The Box.

Outside St Luke's, a heritage church, The Hop takes on a new character. As part of my exhibition it becomes the entry and exit point. I can see a congregation emerging on a Sunday morning, arms aloft in the sunshine. In Plymouth, the work also speaks to rigging, sails, tensioning, journeys, the language of my grandfather who, as a teenager, worked as a ship builder in the Dockyard.

I couldn't be more grateful to the team who brought The Hop to The Box. Creating a focal point and new space I can't wait to see its potential realised in the curated and spontaneous events this summer. Thank you Dan, Cameron, Peter, Jodie and all the amazing team at The Box.

This should see way more use than it does, but it still holds a special place in my heart and my music. Remember saving up for it, carrying £1k in cash to a place in London with @senior_reserve_manager to pick it up aged 17 after a conversation with @richiehawtin where he mentioned that we could do with a kick drum with more, well, kick, to cut through the mix and the 909 certainly did that and does that to great effect.
Still capable of rocking a room and still inspirational in the right hands. Happy 909 day
Track is a Cumulonimbus number produced by either me, me and @mrbyford, or in the full triangle with @senior_reserve_manager from 97/98.

Last week @farrellcentre I started to add the context of the waiting room I’m building based on @joannazawieja and Andjeas Ejiksson’s instructions. As building of course is always material + meaning and the mapping of personal experience into that space.

Waiting I:
The night is dark and soft, moisture hangs in the air while the leaves play statues. The train lines trace upwards into the mountain fading from the bright light which casts long sharp shadows, its power demarcated in an audible hum. The tone of long distance electricity.

Last night, after numerous journeys on the shinkansen I slept encased on the warm sands, but this evening, at
this juncture, as I stand, sit, pace the platform I know not what space or ground will bear my weight. At this age, on this adventure, this unknown rests easily on my mind.

I wait for the train which will take me there, to a freedom
I’ll later yearn for while typing a fragment of those moments in a gallery context. A train which pulls steeply up the incline into the treeline, towards an ancient sanctuary and rich experience.

“Imagine yourself pacing back and forth, waiting for someone. You are probably moving within a limited area and you avoid walking too far away” Andjeas Ejikson / @joannazawieja

These are part of the instructions I’m working with for the current exhibition @farrellcentre and the resulting board, which now rests on the floor of the gallery is my response.

It’s a funny thing reacquainting oneself with past knowledge and past selves. I used to make music all the time, little projects, jams, full produced tracks, the whole lot. Since having children it’s tailed off but it was dropping before that if I’m honest. So it’s interesting getting the feeling of wanting to be messing about with sounds once again and even more interesting to see how it pans out. Feel quite happy about this little jam and as ever @teenageengineering bits, alongside my old #yamahavss30 and the classic #bossdr110 sound great captured on @tula.mics Hoping this is the start of the next chapter.
