Presenting BALEBOARDS @baleboards , a 14- year project(2026 -2040) within my lifetime project HOW TO HEAL A BROKEN WORLD. Conceived to interrupt the visual language of billboard spaces, the project transforms billboards as sites of commerce into sites of remembrance, reinventing them as carriers for material witnesses and alternative interventions. I continue to expand the scope of my material, directly engaging the public as a social commentator in addressing issues that are relevant not just for this time but also for our collective futures. I am deeply grateful for the support of the institutions and patrons that I’m honored to do this journey with. The first iteration of the project ( OBRONI W’AWU) will host a number of billboards across Accra and other cities around the world, inviting the public to rethink the global impact of fast fashion and textile waste pollution on communities, cultures and cities, and spark conversations about our collective responsibility towards each other and the planet. The project is not a solution…It is an invitation to dialogue, accountability and hopefully create new perspectives.

Excited to present my lifetime project ‘HOW TO HEAL A B-R-O-K-E-N WORLD’. This has been in the works for about three years now and I’m glad that with the help of a dedicated team, it’s finally rolling! The project will take on timelines of 6 years, confronting various monuments of the social structure and opening up conversations about historical elements as fossils of archaeological gifts and architectural monuments. In relation to that the project would explore the role of textile in archiving history, challenging present global conversations and creating pathways for reimagining textile as a material that transcends culture to purposefully creating gifts of healing for the next generation. In the wake of the global climate crisis, it is important that we decontextualize what role art plays in shifting the balance of power, actively challenging longstanding perspectives and creating unconventional means of healing to the world.

Is the new face of colonialism fast fashion?

Even though colonialism has officially ceased, its systems of exploitation and extraction still exist in new forms. Waste colonialism is one of them today.

Millions of abandoned clothes are transported from the Global North to nations in the Global South under the pretence of "second-hand clothing" as fast fashion encourages overproduction and overconsumption. Communities are left to pay the social, economic, and environmental costs of someone else's consumption because much of it is useless.

Meet Emmanuel Aggrey Tieku (@studiosashman), a Ghanaian artist who transforms the material residue of global consumption into temporary architectures of memory, visibility, and collective responsibility through large-scale installations assembled from discarded garments.

Constructed primarily with garments collected from Ghana's second-hand clothing economy, as well as landfills and beaches, his works move fluidly between sculpture, architecture, and public intervention. His lifetime project is unfolding under the name 'How to heal a broken world'.
