ICYMI: About Me and about Studio Ssydro! P.S. the name Ssydro (pronounced "Syd-row") comes from an elementary school yard duty who knew I didn't have a great home life. He constantly checked on me and made sure my brother and I were "good". Mr Brown of Sacramento, I hope you know how much you changed my perception of myself at such a young age !!!

All text in slides: Hi! My name is Sydnee Collamer ! I'm 29 years old & I'm from San Jose, CA (don't treak out ! I don't work in Al lol). I used to work for CHANEL, both in retail & later, corporate social responsibility.

I loved this job a lot actually, but I got in scolded quite a bit (oopsieeeee) because I had very strong opinions and liked to be transparent about things (huge no no for the double C's btw). But hey! That's life!
I met the most amazing people & wouldn't trade the experience at all.

While working at @chanelofficial , I also did design work on the side. I started with User Experience (UX) and quickly found how much I loved designing with accessibility and FUN in mind.

The problem was, I also loved fashion. And stuff. You know, tangible things. Things made with craft. When I started job searching, I felt really outcasted. I wasn't considered desireable for fashion design, and I didn't have experience (or desire) to work in tech. so went back to school for Product Design.

But "product" is such a broad term. I found myself dancing on the line of what is a product and what is art, or creation for creation's sake. My first design pitch - I was so nervous lol. This was March 2024. "Matthew" is referring to professor Matthew Hoey, industrial design and architecture at Parsons (@parsonsschoolofdesign). He was my favorite actually. (Hope you made it to Monterey, CA!)

But, like all perceived obstacles, it pushed me even further to MAKE space for myself. So I started Studio Ssydro.
A design house founded on being multifaceted. To be categorized meant to be basic, in my opinion.

Come make a charm bracelet out of my meds with me while I watch bodycam yt

Don't know what level of mental health that is but I'm vibing with it. Jk. But really- as much as I do ❤️ organic living, I've tried doing it w/o meds. It's not so fun (for me at least!)
Everyone always has something to say about the pharmaceutical industry, & tbh, valid. Received.

As for me: I've been diagnosed PTSD + major depression since I was 18. A lot of people are lowkey shocked when I tell them that, because I guess it's not super apparent?? I get it ig, I'm pretty loud, I LOVE laughing, I'm always down for a good party / get together. But actually the struggle comes when I isolate.. sometimes I literally won't leave the house lol. I'll ignore calls, suddenly nothing matters. It's really hard to dig myself out of that space. A lot of times I turn to art, just to get my hands moving. Once my hands are moving, I can feel my brain kick on. But it's still hard. I'm EXTREMELY grateful to have an amazing support system of friends, family, & loved-ones who really do pull me out of it.

Anyways, the reason I'm even bringing this up is I see a lot of people hesitant to openly discuss their mental health, or maybe hesitate to take medication. Fear of judgement, I get it. I'll never tell someone what to do, but I will say if you're scared- don't be! I've never once felt that any of my mediations ever changed who I am at my core. They've really only allowed me to live in the modern world in the most comfortable way I can. (Now that I think about it.. I wonder if berry picker + basket weavers ever experienced depression..)

I'm doing this to cut down on waste (I'd love to be zero waste one day!) and stretch my creative / art muscles. As a woman who gardens, I'm tired of smell proof bags looking tactical !! Why can't i be inconspicuous AND cute at the same time? Product designers ASSEMBLE.

This handbag concept combines fashion with functional, smell-proof and sustainable materials including:
• Embossed GRS polyurethane exterior
• TPU laminate air & moisture barrier
• Activated charcoal odor filtration
• Paraffin canvas lining

I'm going back on forth on if I should add a locking mechanism on the zipper. (￢з￢) Thoughts?
