I realized I have never shared my senior thesis on here so I thought better late than never. What I love about interior design is the impact it can have over the users of the space. I found my motivation for my thesis after spending years working at an early childhood center during my school breaks. I not only loved working with kids but learned a lot about their behavior.

For my thesis I had the opportunity to design a preschool, where I explored how a built environment could support physical movement, different learning styles and play. The school was based off the existing nature center site in Richmond, VA that I had the ability to pull plans from to remodel. I had so much joy creating this project from the initial research on early childhood development to conquering the many odd floor drops in the original space.

I continue to be drawn to projects that have meaningful purposes and require designers to think carefully about the wellness of its users particularly within education, healthcare and communal spaces.

If you are interested in reading more about my full thesis I will add a link in my bio! by @studiosusanwebster

Texture, color, and shape surround us all in so many ways. I love how art plays a role in all our lives even when we might not notice. Lighting as you can see also plays a a huge part in our outside world. I have spent extensive time setting up the garden just right. I love how the color still comes out at night. So magical! by @studiosusanwebster

Not pictured…me wearing my green leather cowgirl boots this day😅 Leather is so pretty!

I really enjoy listening to companies talk about their products. If you know me I try to be realistic and always think about sustainability. Whistler talked this day about how real leather is much more beneficial than faux plastic leather. Unfortunately like many plastic products once it’s discarded it sits in landfills. Real leather can be conditioned and worked to renew its look. Similar to my various pairs of cowboy boots that can be cleaned, real leather holds up for years and has strong durability. It wont be everyones cup of tea but like my mom tells me invest for the long run vs buying something youll just end up replacing soon. by @studiosusanwebster
