Slowly building a menagerie of pots. Shout out to my two creative kiddos who sculpted the turtle and giraffe. Meet Thao Hau, a guest artist on this year’s Potters’ Path.

Thao creates functional pottery fired to cone 6 oxidation. Her handmade work is carefully hand-carved and hand-painted, with designs inspired by architectural and graphic elements, especially ornate geometric shapes, repeating patterns, and strong decorative surfaces.

Thao first fell in love with clay at a young age and explored many different art forms over the years before returning to pottery. What began as a hobby eventually became a full-time passion and a natural fit for both her tactile and practical sensibilities.

Her work is designed to be lived with. Each piece is meant to be held, used, and enjoyed as part of everyday life — functional objects that also bring color, pattern, and a sense of art into daily routines.

During Potters’ Path, visitors will be able to see Thao’s work at the North Haven host location, alongside other artists participating on the trail.

This form is where it all started. The very first piece of pottery that @studiotceramics ever sold was a donut bud vase. I was recently browsing old photos and reminiscing about all the early days. Although my work has changed a lot I can still see me in these older pieces. I think I’ll revisit these donuts and see how they incorporate into my current styles and designs. Come see how my work has evolved, in person at Potters Path this October.

This pitcher has a story.
Last fall at Potters Path, two sisters came to find me and told me their mother had just had a stroke. They were scrolling instagram with her while she recovered in the hospital and she had pointed out one of my vases that she liked. The two sisters immediately came to purchase the vase for her. Seven months later the sisters showed up at my booth, but this time they had their mom with them! This time she picked out and bought herself something. It was the very first and only tulips pitcher I had made. It warmed my heart so much to feel like a part of this family’s story. Although this one is ever so slightly different, I made another copy as a reminder to myself of the connections that were made.

Come find me and more tulip pieces at Potters Path this October. Don’t worry. You can still buy this pitcher. If it sells I think I’ll keep making it just to keep the memory alive.
