Most people only meet a yak once, in a children’s alphabet book somewhere between “X-ray” and “zebra.” But for us, yak wool has always been the center of everything we make. It is incredibly soft, breathable, and naturally sustainable. Each spring, the fiber is gently combed and collected by hand, with animals grazing lightly and ecosystems left intact. Yak wool offers a thoughtful alternative that rivals cashmere in both feel and purpose.

Our supplier, a woman who somehow manages triplets and a lifetime of dedication, has spent decades working with nomadic families in the Tibetan highlands who raise their herds with care. Through her, we’re able to bring this rare material to life in small batches — just a few new pieces a year, each designed to last beyond a season.

Studio Tercette was founded by two mothers who, like many women, spend most of their days thinking of everyone else. It began as a way to make something thoughtful for ourselves — pieces as considered and enduring as the rest of our lives. We hope these pieces bring a bit of that same care and calm into yours.

If you’re new here, hello. We’re Studio Tercette, a women owned material-driven knitwear studio devoted to one rare fiber: yak wool.

We spend the year designing one annual collection around everything this material can do — its softness, warmth, breathability, beautiful drape, and natural structure. The pieces are architectural but familiar, designed to feel timeless and easy to live in.

As extraordinary as yak wool is, we don’t think it should be saved for special occasions. We want it to become part of everyday life: the sweater you reach for without thinking, the material that feels good the moment you put it on, the piece that stays with you beyond a season.

What to know about yak wool:

Yak wool is a natural fiber with the softness and warmth people love in cashmere, but with a lighter, more breathable feel made for daily wear.

It comes from the fine down yaks naturally shed each spring, then is gently combed by hand. Because the fibers are fine and smooth, it can feel gentler and less scratchy than many traditional wools.

Gathered seasonally and in limited quantities, yak wool asks for a slower way of making.

At Tercette, we use it to create fewer pieces with more intention — soft, warm, breathable knitwear made to be reached for often.
