I joined @icglocal600 twenty years ago today. For my entire career I was “the young guy” until one day I wasn’t. To say I’m grateful is an understatement, and to anyone who encouraged and supported me along the way, thank you. Here’s to more years of brotherhood and sisterhood. by @studlycam

On a feature shoot this weekend, I was tasked with handheld coverage on a bedroom scene that involved over-the-shoulder shots of a couple, i.e. looking up and looking down. I surmised this would be a fantastic use of the ZeeGee, hardmounted to the dolly via Steadicam arm. We spent several hours total in this coverage, and my operator Neal Bryant was able to precisely float with the actors and deliver an authentic handheld feel with zero fatigue. Most importantly, this setup was safer and less distracting to the actors than if it had been shoulder-mounted on a ladder or via a bodymounted system, as Neal could stand further away. Regardless of my obvious bias(!), I can't think of another tool that would have worked as ideally to achieve these setups. by @studlycam

You’ve put lights on your sled, but in low mode? We needed the light really high, so I used “low mode” to our advantage, while keeping the lens eye level! by @studlycam

One of the highlights of my week, being taught by steadicam legend, Neal Bryant SOC. I met Neal in 2023 when I interviewed him online for the podcast, he holds a special place for me because he was one of our first international guests. We had a great chat for that episode.

Little did I know that almost exactly 3 years later he would be teaching me at this course. Neal’s being doing Steadicam since he was 16 years old, has won camera operator of the year and has an incredible amount of knowledge. He can break down complex topics into simple terms. He taught us the best way to tackle Stairs, Antlers, Gyros, Crane step offs, and utilising the Volt 2 and Volt 3 to their maximum potential. Not only that, hes just a great genuine guy.

Thanks for inspiring me @studlycam I’ll be taking your lessons back to Australia 🇺🇸🤝🇦🇺
