No poetry I just like it tbh ✨
Here's a quick get-to-know-you:

I came to NYC 13 years ago on a 1-month internship and was truly lucky enough to be able to stay

Grew up in salt lake city, still love the mountains and desert

Several official LinkedIn titles across many past lives, though some days they're still all the same life of course:

-marketing strategist
-photographer
-fashion designer
-military intelligence analyst
-trends consultant

Poetry is really very new in my life. Honestly, it's the beautiful but necessary result of many many years of struggling to reconcile all the unsettlingly disparate things I was trying to do over so many years. Even though I was getting a lot of great attention for putting creative work into the world that I was truly proud of, for so so long I desperately wanted to be "just one thing."

It took me a decade to realize I should just...call myself a poet. So I get why so many people start out saying they "don't like poetry" — it can be incredibly tough identity language to reckon with. It took a decade to make that language make sense in my head.

These days I just consider all of it poetry. Everything around us. I don't think about it too hard. So thanks thanks THX for all of your poetry, *whatever* it looks like, my beautiful friends.

we see bad actors
cast poorly as leaders
shouting war slogans that they heard
on TV when they were once kids
and had a chance at dreams
worth believing in

Mostly what I did all last year was play piano...!

My entire life I kept telling myself I’ll just never learn to coordinate my hands or whatever else and that’s just why I’ll never play piano. These are the things we tell ourselves as artists. It was always kind of strange because almost anything else that requires kinesthetic intelligence I’ve been really proud of being able to pick up really easily? So I guess I just accepted piano as an exception that word always escape me??

Over the last year I’ve decided to no longer accept that. And I’m now wildly proud of being able to do a thing that I told myself for decades(!) I’d never be able to do...!! 🥹

Here’s me doing more of what I once thought was impossible, everywhere from home to abroad to poetry performances and even at the Algonquin Hotel, where I decided to hijack their piano until I got scolded. And ya know what? It never happened 🙏✨ by @studstill.words
