I did a review of my students 👨‍⚕️👩‍⚕️ over the years and what the most common reasons are that most of them struggled with time management ⏰ and sticking to schedules 📆.

DISTRACTIONS and COMMITMENTS

One student even said ‘they keep sending to do things around the house - interrupting my study sessions’ — my African students will get that part.

For others, they simply can’t say NO to requests from friends and family.

After every distraction, sometimes it’s difficult to get back into the groove and you abandon the study session altogether.

In 2026 — STOP! 🛑

Do it for YOU, and really for THEM as well. If you CRUSH THE USMLE, you will be happy with yourself and a happy you will make a better friend!

So,

- make that schedule 📆 (3-4 months – depending on where you are now) and STICK TO IT!

In the New Year 🥳, resolve to study differently, with a superior approach.

Prepare for the 'exam', how to study effectively, answer questions and think like the #USMLE wants you to.

We're NOT repeating the mistakes of the previous years ❌. Mistakes that included re-reading, and getting drowned in flashcards; or getting overwhelmed by too many resources.

This Year:

✔️ Focus on a few resources
✔️ Practice! Practice!! Practice QUESTIONS!!!
✔️ Get a structured study and BE CONSISTENT

You’re doing better than you think! Sometimes, the motivation you are looking for will be found when you Identify and appreciate the areas where you have improved.

If you can answer this question, then you can get even better:

- What did I do differently on this block of question?

OR

- Why did this block of question feel much harder (or easier) than others?

If you can answer those, you’ll know exactly what to keep doing or stop doing.
