People always tell you, “Don’t blink, the good times will be over in a heartbeat.” Well, now I’m sitting here on my way back to Germany, realizing that they were right. Time does fly by, and you should never take the things you only have for a short period of time for granted. Jasper has not just been a place where I lived for 10 months, but it has truly become my second home, and the friends I’ve made are now like family, that I don’t ever want to leave behind. I think now I understand what they mean when they say, “Doing an exchange year is the best and worst experience all in one,” because I never thought I would have such a good time with people who were strangers to me 10 months ago. I remember the first day I walked into that school and how I got lost in every hallway. Now, I don’t think I could feel more at home in a place that was once so unfamiliar. All the memories I’ve made—the theater performances, drawing classes where we would just laugh and get no work done, or the tests and quizzes that stressed me out more than they probably should have—it all feels like home. A home that I never thought I would actually have to leave behind. Even though I feel like sometimes I didn’t let my friends and family know how much I love them, I truly hope each and every one of you knows how many tears I’ve cried for you in these past days. It’s so sad to say goodbye, but I know the only reason it is so hard is because I’ve spent my time well. I know every single one of you will move on to great things, even though it might seem hard right now, and I’ll always be there cheering you on—even if it’s from the other side of the world. I couldn’t be more proud to call you guys my friends and family. Thank you for everything you have done for me. This isn’t goodbye,this is see you later 🫶🏻 taken in Jasper, Indiana by @stxlla_sum
