WHAT TIME IS IT? IT’S TIME FOR AFRICA 🌍🇳🇬 As I prepare to represent Nigeria at Miss Universe, I wanted this look to tell a story beyond fashion. A story of heritage, identity and a continent whose time has come. Inspired by my mother, who represented Nigeria at Miss Universe in 1991, and my Edo roots, the coral beads celebrate the royalty, strength, and rich heritage of the Benin Kingdom. But the most powerful detail is the clock behind me. A clock without hands, because Africa’s moment should never be determined by someone else’s timing. This November, I carry the pride of Edo, the spirit of Nigeria, and the hopes of a continent ready to be seen. We are not chasing the spotlight. We are becoming the spotlight. THE TIME IS NOW. THE TIME IS AFRICA🌍🇳🇬 Creative Direction & Styling: @styled_by_maklinscout Photography: @boboiso #missuniverse #missuniversenigeria #legacyreign #thecrownismedical #druniverse by @styled_by_maklinscout
For her third look she simply said I want to shine. So we gave the shine a story. The crystal lines were created to flow like strands of hair, a nod to the business that has become such a huge part of her journey. The exaggerated shoulders rise around her like a crown, representing strength, confidence and the weight of everything she has built. Then came the mirror train, made from hundreds of reflective pieces. To me, it represents every version of her, where she started, how far she has come, and the woman she is becoming. A woman who has spent years helping other women feel beautiful and confident finally became the reflection herself. She didn’t just wear the light, She became it Fashion stylist: @styled_by_maklinscout Hair: @joyposhhairline_ Designer: @prudential_atelier Makeup Artist: @kim_beautystudio Hairstylist: @styledbyessa by @styled_by_maklinscout
NOVEMBER, THE MONTH OF DESTINY💚✨ When i started this journey with the @styled_by_maklinscout I had one request, I didn’t just want to look like a Queen. I wanted to look like I came from a generation of Queens🥰 This is a look that celebrates the African woman👸🏾Her strength, her grace, her elegance, and the beautiful heritage she carries. From the gele to the beads, the rich green fabric and the horsetail whisk, every detail was intentional. A reminder of the powerful women who came before me and the legacy I am privileged to carry. As we begin a new month and count down to Miss International in Japan, I am reminded that I am not just representing a country, I am carrying a story. There were moments I looked at everything in front of me and said, Maklin what have you gotten yourself into? 😂 But this is the part of my job I love the most, taking something ordinary and pushing it until it becomes something people haven’t seen before. My staffs initially attached the braids with needle and thread, but they were so heavy they wouldn’t stay. We had to keep sewing, reinforce with glue, adjust, remove and attach again until everything finally held. This is the side of styling people rarely see. The running around. The sourcing. The experimenting. The sleepless nights. The pressure to create something worthy of the person trusting you with their moment. I’m grateful that God gave me a mind that keeps creating, hands that refuse to stop working, and people who trust my madness long enough to see the vision come alive. When @joyposhhairline_ reached out to me, I knew I didn’t want to create just another beautiful birthday shoot. She is a hair vendor, so after our consultation, I asked myself one question, what if her brand became the inspiration for the entire look? That idea became the foundation of this creation. We took the very thing her business represents and transformed it into something architectural, dramatic and regal. I purposely didn’t braid all the extensions so you could clearly see that they’re actual braids with hair extensions, not fabric. The finished dress weighed approximately 47KG and It took an incredible amount of creativity, patience, craftsmanship and teamwork to bring this vision from an idea in my head to what you see now. For this look, I wasn’t interested in simply making my client beautiful. I wanted to create a visual reminder of power, reclamation and a woman taking up space again. I wanted the silver to feel like armour, and the circular structure behind her to become both a halo and a shield representing strength, protection and wholeness surrounding one woman. The exaggerated silhouette was intentional. I didn’t want her to disappear into the clothes, I wanted her presence to command the entire image. And this is what I love about styling, I don’t just put clothes together. I take a story, turn it into a silhouette and make you feel it before you even understand it. I didn’t want @nanaakuaaddo to simply arrive in Milan. I wanted Milan to know a Nigerian fashion stylist was in the building. We don’t just show up over here. We make an entrance. Styled & creatively curated by @styled_by_maklinscout 📸: @edos_artistry 💇‍♀️: @laposhair by @styled_by_maklinscout
