What an incredible weekend. We still find ourselves still reminiscing about it. We didn’t win, nor did we make the top 25, but we won because we took our SHOT and attended the event. Just being in the same room as such talented artist, being able to talk to behind the chairs founder Mary, sharing laughs with BTC social media director Kevin, speaking with directors of brands, watching talented artist teach classes, sharing the dance floor with some of our favorite creators, making new connections, getting THREE collaborations with @behindthechair_com , these are all WINS. We started doing hair comedy, getting no support from the salon we were at, some stylist would actually make rude comments about our work, there were a couple who supported us, but even the salon owner talked bad about us. We had to move salons so we can find a place that would value our work, and just let us do our thing. There were so many hurdles just to keep going. And when you then attend an event like the one shot hair awards you hear similar stories that help motivate you to keep going. This event gave us motivation, it was a breath of fresh air. We have a new outlook on what our goals should be. We have a better understanding of what we should be doing. We almost didn’t go, we literally book our flight 2 nights before, because we kept contemplating whether we should attend or not. 🚨 READ THE APPLICATION The @oneshothairawards @thebtcshow has motivated me to do better and put myself out there and work with the best, but my application keeps getting denied. Salon owners just keep telling me to fix my application. What should I fix? I would also love to work with brands. I’m a top 100 nominee if any brands want to work me. 🤞 But on a serious note 😂, the one shot awards by behind the chair was such an amazing event. It was inspiring, educational, fun, eye opening and so much more all in one weekend. From meeting stylist who are amazing behind the chair, meeting stylist and brands who continue to break boundaries on what many looked at as just the hair industry. Hearing all the stories of overcoming adversity. How so many in our industry have diversified there income through social media, brand deals, brand ambassadors and so much more. I encourage all of those who haven’t been to this event to pencil next years event in your calendar. You have an entire YEAR, to work hard on trying to get nominated, or saving for this event by setting aside a little money every so often. Surround yourself with people who want to continue to grow and want to do better for themselves and those around them. FREE yourself from toxic salon environments, this can and will be a downfall for your growth as a stylist. And as it was said by so many winners at the awards show, continue to dream big, because you next know when your ONE SHOT is coming!!! Huge thank you to our content creator for capturing this special event @jx5media ***And to @marybehindthechair , @kevin.givens and the entire team that put this event together, thank you, this event was an eye opener that will help me pivot my career in the right direction. The Disco party was a vibe!!! We had so much fun!!! Music just brings people together. Some of these people we have never met before, but we all just came together to have a good time!
