This shoot is incredibly special to me because, for a brief moment, it became a window into a time I never had the chance to experience. It reminded me that we don’t have to belong to an era to feel connected to it. Sometimes, all it takes is a story, a silhouette, or a single photograph to make a distant past feel strangely familiar.

We spend so much time chasing what’s next that we forget to look back at what has endured. Trends come and go, but elegance has always spoken the same language. Maybe that’s why some photographs feel less like an imitation of the past and more like coming home.

BEFORE THE RED CARPET: A Vintage Hollywood Editorial
Concept:

What would getting ready for the Met Gala have looked like in another era, if they had the social media culture but without smartphones?
A reimagining of the private moments that leads up to a major red carpet appearance today.
Although the styling, setting, and atmosphere are rooted in vintage glamour, the narrative introduces rituals associated with the modern generation: the GRW, behind the scenes content, pre event portraits, and the carefully planned social media reveal.

Inspiration:
Inspired by the evolution of the Met Gala, especially the 1988 Costume Institute exhibition, From Queen to Empress: Victorian Dress, 1837 - 1877. The exhibition placed a spotlight on the four decades of Victorian dress and the transformation of fashion during Queen Victoria’s rise from queen to empress.
Instead of recreating Victorian fashion exactly, we pulled from its elegance, femininity, drama, and sense of occasion, then brought it into the world of vintage Hollywood glamour.

The Story:
Before the cameras, the crowd, and the red carpet, there is a quieter performance. A final look in the mirror. Some time spent on the telephone. A carefully composed portrait, an audacious pose, captured and ready to be posted regardless of what the red carpet sees.
Bridging the gap between two eras, by pairing the elegance and formality of historical fashion with the contemporary culture of documenting the preparation and sharing every moment before the public appearance while appreciating the beauty of fashion and creativity.
