i was thinking maybe this would be more interesting if i filmed a speed-run of the process but hello? not everything has to be a flashy reel. in-between the still image and the reality of slow-moving hours of art-making, there is a time-lapse economy built around condensing, accelerating, and summarising its product. and what is that product we’re engaged in the buying and selling of? is it art? ideas? attention? creativity? time itself? or simply, are we all here parcelling off bits and pieces of our capacity to wonder?

one way i like to engage with art when gallery-hopping is to look at what’s in front of me and try to trace back the artist’s technique from these visual cues. are there hints in the texture as to what materials were used, what application method? is there layering involved, and if so, what medium and why? what is the overall effect of these many micro-decisions? studying a still image or object, and letting the process behind its making play out in your imagination is worth a million progress reels imo. idk food for thought by @su.3adi
