SUBSISTENCE Soundsystem is a Salzburg-based DIY soundsystem dedicated to roots reggae, dub, steppers, and bass music. At its heart is a custom, hand-built sound system that serves not merely as a sound reinforcement system, but as the sonic and cultural foundation of the project: warm, deep, physical, and immediate.

Led by DJ Diaz and King Cone a.k.a. Dubdellic, SUBSISTENCE brings together more than two decades of experience in Austrian underground, club, and soundsystem culture. Both have been active for years as DJs, organizers, hosts, sound engineers, and curators, and have helped shape spaces for bass music, dub, and independent club culture through various projects.

Its roots trace back to the early DIY soundsystem and bass music scenes in Salzburg. Since 2020, SUBSISTENCE has carried on this legacy in a focused form: with a clear emphasis on roots, dub, UK steppers, carefully curated selections, and the physical experience of sound through its own wall of speakers.

A SUBSISTENCE session moves between meditative dub, ’70s roots, steppers pressure, and heavy bass music. It’s less about maximum volume and more about understanding sound as space: bass as a driving force, music as a connection, and the sound system as a shared focal point.

☀️ E.G.U.N. – May 1st @ Volksgarten Salzburg ☀️

On May 1st from 14:00, we’re joining forces with Mr. Edvard’s and bringing the full Subsistence Soundsystem to Volksgarten for an open air day session.

This one is also a small premiere for us:
we’ve rebuilt the rig and will be playing it for the first time with new bass bins and new tops. So if you want to hear what the updated Subsistence setup sounds like — this is the one.
