The Subway Pulse live map just got a visual upgrade.

See every train moving across the NYC subway system in real time, now with a cleaner, smoother map that makes it easier to watch the whole city move.

I’m still looking for real subway riders to test the app and send feedback before launch.

Beta spots are limited, so grab one while they’re still open.

What should I build next for Subway Pulse?

I’m looking for ideas from real NYC subway riders. What feature would make the app more useful, more fun, or just better?

Drop your idea in the comments. I’m actively building the app now, so your suggestion could end up in a future update.

Subway Pulse lets you watch NYC subway trains move live across the system, follow individual lines, see nearby trains, track your station as you ride, and more.

The iOS beta is still open to new testers. Join now and help shape what comes next:

New in Subway Pulse: Subway Fun Facts.

You’ll start seeing new icons attached to stations throughout the line diagrams. Tap one and you might find a piece of subway history, public art, an engineering detail, a strange quirk, or something unexpected about the station you’re passing through.

You can browse the facts right in Subway Pulse, and every fact includes a source link so you can read more from the original source.

Subway Fun Facts is live on the web now at nycsubway.info and will be coming to the iOS beta soon.

The beta is still open to new testers, and I’m looking for feedback from real NYC subway riders.

The NYC subway map just got a serious upgrade.

The latest Subway Pulse update completely rewrites the map engine from the ground up.

Subway lines and station layouts have been redesigned for better clarity, balance, and beauty. The new engine supports smooth lines and curves, which means the map can be hand tuned section by section while still staying geographically accurate.

The goal is to make the subway easier to read without losing the shape of the city.

The new map is live now on the web at nycsubway.info.

I’m also looking for NYC subway riders to test the iOS beta and tell me what you think.

The whole NYC subway, alive.

Subway Pulse shows every train currently running across the city on one live map, moving in real time along the tracks.

The latest beta update brings a much improved animation engine, with smoother train movement across the full system and cleaner transitions throughout the map.

You can zoom out and watch the city move all at once, or dive into a single line and follow individual trains as they make their way through the system.

This is the part of Subway Pulse I’ve always wanted to build. Something useful, but also something you can just watch.

The iPhone beta is open now:

Big Subway Pulse beta update.

I’ve rebuilt the animation and layout engine behind the live map and line diagrams. Train movement is smoother, station layouts are cleaner, and the diagrams can now show where tracks actually split.

The A train is the first big example.

Lefferts Blvd, Far Rockaway, and the Rockaway Park spur now appear as separate branches, with trains following the branch they are actually running on.

There are also improvements to map zooming, station highlighting, transfer and accessibility badges, arrival loading, and empty arrival states.

If you’re testing the beta, scroll the A line down to Rockaway Blvd and Broad Channel and let me know if the branches look right.
