The trains still moving in SubWoofer town! Looking for writers, photographers, interviewers, text editors, and graphic designers to keep the train moving.

At the end of the day though as a creative I want you to know; a publication is NOT the end all be all. You don’t need photo passes to large shows to become successful and paid. You don’t need a publication backing you to even make it there in the first place. Sometimes being in the dirt ripping gigs at small venues for cash is the best way to go. I’d argue it’s one of the only ways to make this a full time thing.

But if a publication is what you’re looking for I’m also all ears! Or if you’re just interested in sharing what’s going on in your local scene; I’m even more all ears. 👂

Be careful with who you trust your work too, what free gigs you rip, and how you choose to progress. Keep it trucking.

“5 Seconds of Summer has spoken in the past about how first and foremost they’re a live rock band. I think that this tour has proven that more than any they’ve done before.”

“Spending the night tucked away beneath The Wharf is something I often find myself doing. Less often I find myself a witness to the amount of talent I saw Thursday night.”

A once in a lifetime opportunity to be a part of something bigger.

Turnstile drew a crowd of 60,000 to the Washington Monument for a show benefitting Palestine, Lebanon, and Sudan through Human Concern International. Washington DC has seen a slew of historical music events this year. It's a middle finger to #45 who has turned the city into his fucked up playground. Well, it's our playground too. And we're taking it back.

I started going to shows in 2007, at a time where I primarily listened to alternative, emo, and horror punk. Throughout the years, my live music taste developed into late night warehouse raves to cross-country music festivals. Hardcore music showed up in my life three years ago when I got sober. Live music had been such a pillar in my life for so long--I knew I didn't want to lose it in my newfound sobriety, but I knew I had to reframe how I saw it.

Hardcore shows and the straightedge scene provided me a safe space to enjoy live music. Even though I haven't been listening to Turnstile long, I'm just grateful for hardcore and to be here at all.

Turnstile is a band formed in Baltimore circa 2010.

“Right before the last couple of songs, Zofia Smith came up to the mic to talk about the significance of what’s going on in today’s world and stressed the importance of voting, taking care of the world we live in, and how everyone’s voice is impactful no matter how big or small you are. Seeing the crowd find comfort in her words drove home the importance of spaces like this to society and the gravity of speaking out.”

“Turning 35 at a show naturally invites a bit of introspection. Watching a band I grew up with perform under the stage lights–older, relaxed, and genuinely grateful to be sharing a room– feels like a comforting benchmark for the passage of time.”

“Aldous Harding then took center stage on a stool with her acoustic guitar, surrounded by a collection of props, from a water bottle and a sugar-free Red Bull, to hand percussion instruments like a tambourine and cabasa, while her band lined the outer rim of the stage, as if they were accompanying a one-woman show.“
