These Hands

Look down at your hands, extend your fingers, flip them over to see your palms.

This weekend, I found myself momentarily stranded in Jackson Heights. Looking around, my eyes were met with many brown faces ranging from a milk-heavy coffee tone to tones much closer to a black coffee. It has been a while since I’ve been surrounded by so many brown people. I am a brown person, an Indian at that. I walk with a golden elephant hanging around my neck and a silver kara around my wrist. I let my jewlery speak for my culture when I cannot. This is because I am learning, we all are. But when I look at my hands, I see the same wrinkles that I share with my grandfather, my grandmother, and all the many that came before them. These hands connect all of us, regardless of coffee-tone, wrinkle similarity, finger length, etc. Regardless of if we are learning more about ourselves or our culture, let our hands serve as a reminder to who we are, what we brave, what we take, what we share, and so on.

That being said, I have a lot more to learn. taken in New York, New York by @sue8de

THE KICKSTARTER IS FUNDED 🩵

Thank you all so much. A Song For You has opened up a whole new realm of possibilities, bringing everyone together through a shared love of music, film, and creativity.

None of this would have been possible without all of this support this summer.
