I was lucky to find a pair of red headed woodpeckers and capture a few photos. This bird was looking for food and was very active. It was constant movement from the tree to the ground and back. The Turkey Vulture. Well…what can I say?! For some reason a local community has a LOT of vultures. They are frequently seen circling up high or sitting in the trees with wings out. Last week I witnessed them excitedly landing after the rake made a pass during haying. They were looking for victims of said rake/ haying equipment. I know many people do not like vultures, they think they are disgusting. Personally I’m in favor of them. I think they are a combination of the garbage collector and mortician…and every society needs those! Red spotted Purple butterfly, in my opinion one of the more beautiful butterflies. Although in these 2 photos the butterflies are on flowers, I see more of them in the woods than out in gardens. Dark eyed Junco enjoying sunshine in the woods, California. I am finally getting back to editing vacation pictures from May. I went out with my camera today for a walk and I only walked half of what I normally do. It’s just way too hot out there! Merlin only heard 6 birds, and I didn’t hear any others. I’m not sure if it’s too hot for the birds or if the cicadas are overpowering any noise they make. Maybe both.
