Mr W and I are just back from Canada, and our first stop was to see our old friends @colinandjustin at their hotel @hello_north_star. I had the joy of working with the TV hosts during my days at the BBC, and they’ve gone on to bigger success with all their design series on Canadian TV. They’re also authors and now hoteliers, and though was our second time visiting them in Canada, it was our first at their fabulous hotel. Located by the sea in Louisberg, on the coast of Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia, it’s stunning, and our stay at North Star was so much fun. The food was delicious, the entertainment fabulous - and it’s not every night the hotelier takes the stage. Who knew Justin had such a lovely singing voice?

While we were there, the weather suddenly turned, and state of emergency was declared. You can imagine how bloody thrilled we were when the flooded roads meant we had to stay an extra night! And sitting in the bar that evening, with a bottle of red and the storm swirling outside, we decided North Star would be the perfect setting for a locked room thriller - watch this space! ☺️

We had THE BEST time, so many laughs, so much wine, Colin and Justin are fabulous hosts, and big thank you to them and their team who are the loveliest people who made our stay so memorable.

We finally departed Nova Scotia to spend three weeks driving through Canada. But we were sad to go and left a little piece of our hearts at North Star with ‘the boys.’

Spotted at Toulouse Airport by my lovely friend and fellow author @arianne_richmondeauthor the French paperback of You, Me, Her.
This little book has been translated so many times I’ve lost count, and become one of my best sellers. And yet I remember while writing it I thought ‘I really don’t know what’s going to happen next!’ Perhaps that’s the secret? Let your characters dictate their own stories. A bumpy ride of a read and soooo good - which, tbh, I was not surprised as Sue’s writing and imagination and creativity is second to none! ✨

WOW!! This book did not disappoint!!! @suewatsonbooks NEVER disappoints! Bloody loved this…kept me guessing right until the end 🌟 defo one of my top recommendations! 🥰

Encore une fois, Sue Watson a réussi à me faire douter de tout le monde. 😳

On fait la connaissance de Georgie, une maman qui a élevé son fils Sam seule après avoir quitté un mari violent. Elle est donc particulièrement heureuse lorsque Sam épouse Lauren, son amour d’enfance… une jeune femme qu’elle connaît depuis des années et qu’elle considère presque comme la belle-fille parfaite. Sur le papier, tout semble idéal. 💍❤️

Mais évidemment… dans un thriller de Sue Watson, les apparences sont rarement ce qu’elles semblent être.
Quelques semaines seulement après le mariage, Lauren est retrouvée morte. Et forcément, les soupçons se tournent rapidement vers Sam, mais Georgie refuse d’y croire : et c’est là que j’ai vraiment commencé à être embarquée dans l’histoire.
Parce que Georgie va chercher à comprendre ce qui s’est passé, et plus elle creuse, plus elle découvre des choses qu’elle aurait peut-être préféré ne jamais savoir…

J’ai adoré cette sensation de 𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐢𝐬𝐞 𝐪𝐮𝐢 𝐬’𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞 𝐩𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐭 à 𝐩𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐭. Au début, on pense avoir compris le scénario, puis un détail vient tout remettre en question. On soupçonne quelqu’un, puis un autre… et finalement, on ne sait plus vraiment à qui faire confiance. 👀

Ce que j’ai particulièrement aimé, c’est le côté très « 𝐡𝐮𝐢𝐬 𝐜𝐥𝐨𝐬 𝐟𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐥 ». Derrière cette famille qui semble parfaite se cachent des rancœurs, des secrets, des mensonges et beaucoup de non-dits.

Et évidemment, je me suis prise au jeu : j’ai élaboré mes petites théories, changé plusieurs fois de suspect… pour finalement me rendre compte que je n’avais pas tout compris. 😂
La plume est fluide, les chapitres s’enchaînent facilement et le suspense donne vraiment envie de continuer.

🖤 Une lecture que j’ai trouvée très addictive, avec cette atmosphère de plus en plus oppressante qui me plaît énormément dans les thrillers domestiques.
Si vous aimez les histoires de 𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐬 𝐝𝐞 𝐟𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐞, 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐩𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬,𝐟𝐚𝐮𝐱-𝐬𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐞𝐭 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐬 𝐝𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐨𝐧 𝐧𝐞 𝐬𝐚𝐢𝐭 𝐣𝐚𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐬 𝐬’𝐢𝐥𝐬 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐥𝐚𝐯é𝐫𝐢𝐭é, je pense que celui-ci pourrait vous plaire. by @suewatsonbooks

Mon avis: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Sue Watson est une auteure qui arrive à me surprendre à chaque nouveau roman, et celui-ci ne fait pas exception !
Dès les premières pages, on plonge dans une histoire de secrets de famille, où l’atmosphère devient rapidement tendue et où la suspicion s’installe insidieusement. Qui dit la vérité ? Qui cache quelque chose ? Et surtout… que se passe-t-il réellement derrière des portes closes ?
J’ai adoré la façon dont l’auteure manipule le lecteur avec brio, distillant les indices tout en nous faisant douter de tout et de tout le monde. On pense comprendre, puis un nouveau rebondissement vient complètement remettre nos certitudes en question.
Un thriller psychologique captivant, riche en suspense et en retournements de situation. Impossible de savoir à qui faire confiance, et plus on avance, plus le malaise s’installe.
C’est addictif du début à la fin ! Sue Watson maîtrise parfaitement l’art de nous tenir en haleine et de nous pousser à tourner les pages encore et encore.
Une lecture que j’ai vraiment beaucoup aimée et qui confirme, une fois de plus, que Sue Watson sait parfaitement jouer avec nos nerfs et nos certitudes. by @suewatsonbooks

The weather was SO hot it didn’t feel like an author retreat in Stafford - more like a girls’ getaway in Spain!
And what a time we had, writing, eating, drinking and most of all, laughing! We laughed SO much! Thank you to my fabulous author friends @kimnashauthor and @emmarobinsonauthor for the best time.
