Coming to Bury St Edmunds group show …. The countdown is on for the Guildhall as it opens on the 17th … please spread the word and don’t forget there is also a November Open Studios on the weekend of 14 & 15th where a large number of our members will have their studios open to the public. No need to book or buy a ticket both events are free. by @suffolkopenstudios

I'm pleased to announce that I have been voted in as the new Membership Secretary for Suffolk Open Studios for 2026-27. SOS opens members open their doors throughout the year to members of the public and hold multiple exhibitions each year across the county.

I have previously worked for the Civil Service for a leading employer in London with over 6,000+ members and at the time 12 staff associations to oversee. I enjoy helping others and also combining my passion for the arts and establishing deeper roots in my home county of Suffolk.

I'm looking forward to the new role and picking up the baton next week from the incredible Leigh Driver who has worked extremely hard for SOS Members and forging links with stakeholders in Suffolk.

This morning I had the urge to distract myself from over thinking and living with realising my chronic injuries feels like they have got worse.

I didn't know what to paint which is in itself an obvious bug bear for any artist.

So, I wanted to be in the moment and just go with the flow and see where it takes me!

Once the paint hits the canvas, the vibrancy of the colours seems to satisfy my creative urges and dampen down my frustrations to som3 degree. There is also something to be said about letting the hand just go for it. My understanding this is a form of autominism like being on auto-pilot. Surrealist painters adopted this style and process which has brought to the attention of the massess by Andrè Breton in his Surrealist Manifesto.

Going back to my art, this has been fun just seeing where this takes me and exploring the process with vibrant colours. Try the process yourselves and explore the unknown!
