When I moved to the UK in 2023 on a sponsored visa ✈️, I only had one bank account—my salary account 💼

For a long time, I used it for everything 💳. Little did I know I was missing out on better ways to save, invest, and manage my money 💡

Here are the accounts I use today 👇

1️⃣ Salary Account – Bank of Scotland 🏦
This is still where my salary comes in. I now mainly use it just for receiving income and keeping banking simple.

2️⃣ Stocks & Shares ISA – @trading212 📈
I invest every month using Trading 212. Low cost and super easy to use for long-term investing.

3️⃣ Cash ISA – @withplum 💰
I use Plum to earn 4.6% interest on my savings in Cash ISA.

4️⃣ Daily Spending Account – @monzo 📱
My go-to for everyday spending. Budgeting tools + spending insights make it very easy to track expenses.

5️⃣ Regular Savings Account – @zopamoney 💷
I keep part of my emergency fund here to earn 7.1% interest.

Moved to the United Kingdom in 2023 on a fully sponsored visa. The first three years went into adjusting to the weather, understanding accents, and settling into a new life. In all of this, I missed some key benefits that working in the UK provides. 👇🇬🇧

💰 1. Not knowing about ISAs (Individual Savings Accounts)

I literally sent all my savings to India every month to invest in my Indian investment portfolio, where I will have to pay tax on the returns. 🥲 Later, I learned that you can invest up to £20,000 every year in the UK through an ISA without paying tax on the returns. 🤫📈

🏡 2. Not opening a Lifetime ISA (LISA)

I literally would have received up to £4,000 from the government over four financial years if I had opened one when I moved to the UK. 😭💸

🚨 3. Keeping my emergency fund in a normal savings account

🥲 Later, I found out that there are high-yield savings accounts, such as Zopa, offering interest rates of up to 7% on regular saver accounts. 💷📈 Keeping my emergency fund in a normal savings account meant I missed out on earning much better returns.
