Birthday parties have cake, balloons... and apparently accidental science experiments. While everyone else simply said vow at the decorated bottles with flowers on the table. One young creative genius decided to hydrate and top up bottle of water with a fizzy carbonated soda drink. A few minutes later, tiny bubbles covered the flower stem like it had discovered its own spa treatment!The photographer in me was fascinated. The curious adult in me started investigating. I even topped up another bottle to recreate the effect... with luck it worked. 😄Lesson of the day: Never underestimate a child's imagination. It has been ages since I have visited the chitrakala parashit at blr, I decided to take a break after an event and stop for an idli at the little old hotel inside Chitrakala Parishath, Bengaluru.The quiet ambience felt unchanged. Artists sat around discussing ideas, sketches, colours, and life after wandering through the galleries. It instantly took me back nearly a decade, when I would often come here to pick up props and supplies for my photographic projects.The idlis arrived... and before I knew it, they made a collective decision to dive headfirst into a bowl of sambar. An idli dip, they called it. lways travel with a book in hand or your bag. During my trip to Sikkim and Darjeeling, I picked up The Bells of Shangri-La by Parimal Bhattacharya from the old Oxford Bookstore in Darjeeling. The book follows the adventures of scholars, spies, explorers, and surveyors who ventured into the forbidden land of Tibet, uncovering stories of remarkable individuals like Kinthup and Sarat Chandra Das.What made the book special was that I could visit some of the very places mentioned in its pages. Reading it while walking through Darjeeling connected history, geography, and memory in a way no screen ever could.A few days ago, at Thrissur Railway Station, escaping the sweltering summer heat, I settled into an air-conditioned waiting room. For just ₹30 an hour, it offered recliners, charging points, clean facilities, snacks, and a peaceful place to rest before the train journey. Run by an enterprising group of women, it was one of those simple services that make travel comfortable.As I sat reading, I noticed almost everyone around me was absorbed in their mobile screens. A curious glance here, a puzzled look there—perhaps wondering why someone was still reading a book.Then a gentle snore from the recliner beside me broke my concentration and brought me back to the present.The beauty of a book is its simplicity. It travels with you. It never needs charging. It never runs out of battery. No updates, no restarts, no notifications. When the Coach Has Other Plans You wait patiently at the exact coach position marked on the platform. The train arrives... and then stops a few coaches ahead, as if it has decided that every passenger deserves a surprise fitness test.Suddenly, the platform transforms into a sprint track. Bags bouncing, water bottles swinging, and passengers breaking into an Olympic-worthy dash to catch their coach before the whistle blows. The unreserved general coach at the tail end is already overflowing with people trying to get in, get out, or simply figure out what is happening.For a moment, it feels like a scene straight out of an Indian movie. The hero runs alongside the moving train, someone extends a helping hand, and a lifelong friendship or love story begins.Reality, however, has a different script. The only romance is between you and your luggage, and the helping hand is usually someone shouting, "Run Bro... Run faster, the train is leaving! Late in the evening, I bumped into Thrissur's famous double-decker electric bus parked quietly at a petrol bunk, taking what looked like a well-deserved rest after a long day of sightseeing duties. Ironically, when I was off work and actually had time to play tourist, wanted to ride around the city, then visit the zoo, clicks some animal #portraiture perhaps exchange a few thoughts with the resident animals there. But alas the bus was nowhere to be found! Today, when I was busy, there it was looking relaxed and available. Off duty and chilling in the moonlight. It seems the bus and I have very different schedules. Maybe it's teaching me an important life lesson: opportunities don't always arrive when you're ready for them... sometimes they're parked at a petrol bunk waiting to be photographed instead! Went in search of the famous Kulukki Sarbath in Thrissur, but the journey led me to another local favourite Nannari Sarbath. Made from aromatic Indian sarsaparilla (nannari/naruneendi) root syrup, fresh lemon, and chilled soda, this simple street-side drink has been refreshing people across Kerala and South India for generations. Known for its earthy sweetness and cooling taste, it's the perfect companion on a warm and humid day. Sometimes the best discoveries are the ones you weren't looking for. The bright yellow raincoat that cost just ₹100, available at most neighbourhood store. The Kerala monsoon is a force of nature.
