I chatted to @theobserveruk @obsmagazine about being an artist, what that means and why I’d choose my copper space as my sanctuary for quiet time.

Wearing multiple hats, juggling multiple roles whilst being a mum is my superpower, there are so many moving parts but I wouldn’t change it for the world.

I love my life ⚡️

Race fit meets Shrink-to-fit.

Some garments are finished in the factory. These are finished by you.

Cut from premium Japanese raw denim, SOAR Denim is made to change with wear.

It softens. It shapes. It becomes yours.

Canal street blues of @russelltdavies63

The screenwriter and producer’s dramas have helped make Manchester’s Gay Village a beacon of progress. His latest sounds the alarm for a community under threat, writes @ericawgnr for our cover story

‘If you want to understand what it really means to love the work you do, I hope you get to meet Russell T Davies. He’s describing to me what it was like to film a pivotal scene in his new @channel4 drama, Tip Toe, in which a group of Manchester lads are watching a football match together in a crowded sitting room and streaming themselves online as they do.

‘I’d asked him what was most challenging about writing this new show, which is gripping, brutal, sincere. He draws attention not only to creative struggles, but to practical ones – and to collective work.

‘“It’s a nightmare writing dialogue for 17 people in one room,” he laughs. “That’s a good writing exercise; when I’m mentoring, I should say: ‘Write a scene for 17 people.’ You’ve got to keep them all on the mark.” And then he reflects, remembers them all. “And weren’t they well cast, those boys? I was so proud of them. They’re all from little local Manchester theatres. We saw them doing their own work in places like 53two and Hope Mill theatre, where, if you’ve written a play, great, you can put it on for five days. The world’s changing now. People used to say: ‘Please can I get work?’ Now they say: ‘I’m putting on my own work.’” He beams, smiling, it seems, with his whole 6ft 6in frame, as sunny as the light that pours through the plate-glass window of a London production office in King’s Cross.’

Meet @sienna.world: the Michelangelo of Geline.

Geline is Murdoch’s own invention: a suspended, hydrated, flesh-like material developed during lockdown using open-source research from institutions like MIT. Its origin story? An alien feast in The Marvels (2023), a commission she nearly declined. Instead, she refined the formula into a resilient, jelly-like substance that could withstand the intensity of a film set. That decision has reshaped her career.

Since then, she’s created props for film, TV and music (Gladiator II, Bridgerton, PinkPantheress), collaborated with fashion houses (Hermès, Stella McCartney, Isamaya), and worked with galleries, including a decadent spread curated with chef Skye Gyngell for the Serpentine Gallery’s summer party.

@kathryn.bromwich sat down with Murdoch to talk inspirations (from sex toys to farming tools, street finds to children’s toys) and what’s next for the artist.
