A little bowl of Uji, Kyoto 🍵🌿 Taking a moment with Asagiri no Mukashi by Nakamura Tokichi, a tea house with a long history rooted in Japanese tea culture. One thing I’ll always love about Nakamura Tokichi is the beautiful green color of their matcha. There’s something about that lovely shade of green that makes the whole matcha-making ritual even more special to me. 💚 👅Asagiri no Mukashi’s intended profile leans toward a clean, delicate aroma, gentle umami, and a softer finish, with bitterness and astringency kept subtle. A matcha that invites you to slow down and appreciate the quieter details of each sip. I always believe that matcha is such a personal experience. Some prefer a rich, buttery umami, while others enjoy a lighter, more delicate cup. Neither is better than the other; it simply comes down to what speaks to your palate. Saemidori is known for its gentle sweetness and smooth umami, making it a lovely choice for a cozy latte. The honey brings a mellow sweetness, while rosemary and mint add an aromatic, refreshing twist. After the school drop-offs, gym sessions, boxing or tennis, a little housework, and a warm bath … comes my favorite part of the day. 🍵🤎 Making matcha, slowing down, and enjoying a quiet moment all to myself. There’s something about a beautiful matcha that makes you want to slow down—and Hikari from @raku_matcha was exactly that kind of cup. 🧘🏻‍♀️🍂 🍃Hikari is a first-harvest ceremonial-grade Uji matcha, and right from the start, I was drawn to its beautiful, vibrant green color and soft, inviting aroma. Once whisked, it develops a silky microfoam and has such a smooth, almost creamy texture. 👅On its own, Hikari is smooth, naturally sweet, and beautifully balanced. I get gentle vegetal notes alongside a subtle nuttiness, with a mellow umami that sits nicely on the palate. There’s very little astringency and almost no bitterness, so it feels incredibly approachable. What I especially love is that it doesn’t have that sharp or overly grassy quality. Instead, the flavor feels soft, rounded, and clean, with a pleasant sweetness that lingers after each sip. 🍵As an usucha, it’s delicate and silky, allowing those natural flavors to really come through. But it also has enough character to work beautifully in a latte without completely disappearing behind the milk. 🫐 My pairing For this cup, I wanted to play with something a little different, so I paired Hikari with homemade blueberry syrup and a touch of cinnamon. The blueberry adds a bright, juicy tartness that contrasts so nicely with Hikari’s natural sweetness. Then the cinnamon comes in with this subtle warmth that makes the drink feel cozy without overpowering the matcha. Together, it becomes this lovely balance of fresh + creamy + slightly tart + warm and comforting. And because Hikari has such a mellow profile, the matcha still gets its moment to shine. 👧🏻💭If you enjoy matcha that leans smooth, sweet, creamy, low in bitterness, and easy to drink, Hikari is definitely one to try. It’s beautiful as usucha, holds up surprisingly well in a latte, and gives you enough room to have fun with different flavors and pairings. Hikari is soft and elegant on its own—but with blueberry and cinnamon?
