What truly makes us happy?It’s a question people have been asking themselves for centuries. We look for the answer in success, money, freedom, adventures and sometimes in constantly trying to achieve more.But one of the longest studies on human happiness came to a rather simple conclusion:It’s our relationships that shape our lives in the long run. The people who make us feel safe, the ones we can laugh with.The ones we can show up as our true selves around… people who hold us when life gets difficult and who share the beautiful moments with us.And maybe that’s also where one of the greatest challenges of life lies, because relationships don’t just have the power to make us happy. They can also hurt us.Especially the people we long for love from the most can sometimes be the ones who leave the deepest marks on us. Our family is often the first place where we learn what love means, what closeness feels like. Whether it’s safe to have needs, whether we are allowed to express them. Whether we believe we are enough, just as we are.And sometimes, we carry things from those early experiences with us for much longer than we realize: Beliefs, Fears, Protective mechanisms, Patterns we learned without ever consciously choosing them.But I believe healing begins exactly where we start questioning these things… Where we realize that not everything we learned has to belong to us forever.We cannot change our past, but we can decide how much power we want to give it over our future.Maybe healing isn’t about forgetting the past, maybe it’s about making peace with it… while learning to give OURSELF the things we may have been missing for a long time.And perhaps that is one of the most beautiful forms of freedom:Realizing that we don’t simply inherit our relationships, we can consciously choose how we build and shape them.And sometimes, the most important relationship of our lives begins right there: With ourselves! 🤍Thx for listening! 🫶🏼😘📸 @monsieurstefan 💐🫶🏼Choose your favorite! 😬 by @summerpoolvibes
