Iron is an **essential mineral** your body needs to work properly. You get it from foods such as meat, beans, lentils, spinach, and iron-fortified cereals.

### Why is iron important?

- **Carries oxygen:** Iron is a key part of **hemoglobin**, the protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen from your lungs to the rest of your body.
- **Provides energy:** When your tissues don’t receive enough oxygen, you can feel tired and weak.
- **Supports your brain:** Iron helps with concentration, memory, and normal brain development.
- **Supports muscles:** Iron is involved in storing and using oxygen in muscle cells.
- **Supports your immune system:** Adequate iron is important for normal immune function.

## What happens if you don'’ get enough?

Low iron can eventually cause **iron-deficiency anemia**. Symptoms can include fatigue, weakness, dizziness, headaches, shortness of breath, feeling cold, and difficulty concentrating.

There is also such a thing as **too much iron**, so iron supplements generally shouldn'’ be taken unless they'’e recommended based on your needs or blood tests. Currently I’ve been taking Floradix Liquid Iron. It provides a fast-absorbing, gentle dose of iron and B-vitamins that effectively boosts energy and supports healthy red blood cell production. Its unique blend of botanical extracts, including spinach and stinging nettle, delivers natural trace minerals while rose hip supplies vitamin C to significantly enhance iron absorption. Additionally, soothing digestive herbs like fennel and couch grass are included to stimulate the stomach and actively prevent the constipation common with traditional iron pills. by @summerswellnesspage
