WHY DO WE CLIMB? 🏔️🏕️✨❄️⛏️🤙🏽

At first, we think we’re climbing for the summit. And perhaps that’s what draws us in.

The snow-covered peak on the horizon.
The promise of adventure.
The dream of standing somewhere few people ever will.

But the longer we spend in the mountains, the more we realize that the summit is only one small part of the story.

In the Andes, the mountains are known as the Apus - powerful mountain spirits that have watched over these landscapes for thousands of years. Long before maps were drawn and routes were established, local communities told stories of the great Apus and the relationships between them. Stories that are still passed down today.

When we climb here, we don’t see ourselves as conquerors standing above nature.

We see ourselves as guests.

We climb with respect.

We climb with gratitude.

We climb knowing that the mountain owes us nothing.

Perhaps that is why the Andes feel different.

This is where you can still walk for hours without seeing another person. This is where the only sound is the wind moving across the páramo. Where the stars are brighter than any city light and where the mountains still feel wild, mysterious and untamed.

No distractions. No noise. Just you and the mountain.

Out here, it becomes impossible to pretend. The mountains strip away the unnecessary. The expectations, the comparisons, the endless rush of everyday life.

What’s left is something so simple:

One breath. One step. One foot in front of the other.

In the Andean cosmovision, every being is endowed with a spirit. The mountains, the glaciers, the rivers, the condors, the rocks beneath our feet. Nothing exists in isolation. Everything is connected.

Perhaps that is why we feel so alive in the mountains. Not because we have escaped the world.

But because, for a brief moment, we remember that we are part of it.

That’s why we take time to give thanks. That’s why we keep the stories alive.

Because the mountains were here long before us, and they will remain long after us.

And in their presence, we are reminded of something both humbling and beautiful:

We are not separate from nature. We are nature.

Thinking about Alpamayo? Here’s what it takes. 🏔️❄️⛏️

This is not a beginner mountain.

Climbers joining our expedition should already be comfortable with:

• multipitch ice-climbing and abseiling • glacier travel and rope teams • belaying and placing ice screws • long days at altitude in the mountains

You do not need to lead ice, but you should feel confident climbing vertical ice walls between 60-80 degrees and moving efficiently in alpine terrain.

Our guides support the team throughout the expedition, including ice training and acclimatization before moving onto the mountain.

Meet Alpamayo: One of the most iconic climbs in the Andes and The Most Beautiful Mountain in The World ⭐️🏔️

Located in the Cordillera Blanca in Peru, Alpamayo rises to 5,947m / 19,511 ft and is famous for its perfect ice pyramid and technical summit ridge.

But beyond the photos, climbing Alpamayo is a true alpine expedition.

Expect: • glacier travel • steep snow and multi-pitch ice climbing • high altitude • a remote mountain environment

Our expedition includes a full acclimatization strategy, ice climbing training, and a small, experienced team. 🤝🏽

This is a mountain for experienced climbers, who are comfortable with multi-pitch ice-climbing and are ready to take the next step into technical high-altitude climbing.

Alpamayo 🇵🇪 is often called one of the most beautiful mountains in the world 🤩

Among climbers, it’s known for something else…

Sustained steep ice, moving efficiently at altitude and staying composed when the exposure is very real.

This is the kind of a climb where technical skill and good decision-making matter just as much as fitness.

I’m teaming up with a local guiding company @summitstoke and will be joining a small expedition team this June.

This is a serious alpine objective, best suited to climbers who already have solid multipitch ice climbing experience and are looking for their next big challenge. 💪🏻🔥

LIVE from our beginner expedition! The women have summited 3/4 peaks and are getting so stoked and ready for the grand finale: Cotopaxi 🗻 And what a morning they’ve had, where he really showed off! 🌞

They’ve asked for his blessings and for a safe passage through an ancient Andean ceremony, made the final stretches and breathwork of this expedition and now they’re more ready than ever to go for the final summit. 🏔️🙏🏼
