waaaaah this was such a special one to be a part of and put together, one of those moments I’ll think about fondly when I’m 80 and looking back on life

to get Misbah & Fam (@misbahaviorrr @purp_jaani @bondyvkaye @jumusiq) on Reprezent Off-Air to do a live performance and interview for the DAYTIMERS monthly show was a dreaaaaaam

grateful to the whole @reprezentradio production team for absolutely knocking it out of the park, my jaw dropped at the set-up. @daytimers_uk and the lovely DT Rep team for the trust to do this and of course @misbahaviorrr and family for lugging their gear across town after work and putting on such a stellar performance

life moves so quickly that i am no longer stopping to smell the roses. i got my ILR a few weeks ago (7 visa applications, 14 years and one very privileged passport later), at a time where i feel incredibly lucky but also particularly lonely in officially calling this place “home”.

friends and family moving away, the predominant politics of this country continuing to espouse fear and apathy, cost of living rising and my general energy levels falling.

i miss chennai: my grandma (and her shrill commands, beautiful saris, cheeky smile, home-cooked food), the comforting weather that warms me to my very core, my cutie cousins (going about their lives, becoming their own individuals, reminding me there is hope left yet), the rooftop in the evening bringing sounds and breezes from every corner of the city, illayaraaja playing on my mom’s phone as she cooks in the kitchen.

i miss singapore: my niece (now steadily heading towards 1, thankfully still small and making her adorable dolphin noises, i wonder if she remembers me), my sister (forever confidante, bickering partner and now mother to niece! i wonder if she still thinks of me), my dad (insisting on driving me places, even if it meant taking time away from his afternoon naps), the scorching heat interspersed with sudden bouts of rainfall, the milo and laksa always just a stone’s throw away, the occasional beer with a friend in the lazy afternoon sun, the greenery, the morning swims, the evening walks, the safety.

rose-tinted glasses I’m sure, because to experience occasionally may be to experience in its sweetest form, and i hold these memories dearly and preciously in the interim periods when i wait to go back and create more.

because for better or for worse, london is home now and i’m committed to making this a better place to live, and in doing so i draw strength and comfort from those around me.

my neighbour from dominica, always ready to greet us with love and a hug; old friends, laughing together, encouraging each other, braving life and this city alongside me; new friends, who offer a listening ear and companionship readily; the local barista who makes me a lovely mocha and draws a smiley face everytime; by @sun___san___

Doing this event with @rojak.ldn brought joy in so many ways - working with friends, being able to contribute to a cause I care about 🍉 (and will shout about as long as is needed), seeing smiles and people connecting and unwinding, and it all happening at my favourite local joint @elvermut_london!

Thank you lovely friends and strangers for sharing this moment with us and contributing to our fundraiser for @thesameerproject.

And of course faaaanks @the_phreshprince for the vibesy photos ❤️ by @sun___san___

We raised £750 for @thesameerproject last night at @elvermut_london!!!

Huge, huge thank you to everyone who bought tickets, to @sun___san___ for the sickest beats, and to FOH debutante @gregbrtrnd for his tireless service 🫶

It was the first time we served a meal on banana leaves — or ilai sappadu, as they say in Tamil — where a feast of different dishes is traditionally laid out on a single leaf with rice.

The night felt like a callout to our mixed identities. A bit Singaporean, a bit South Indian.

Traditional fried radish cake alongside rasam pani puri shots. Nyonya chicken curry eaten with mango pickle, by hand, on banana leaf. Longan sticky pudding, finished with jaggery caramel.

Each dish holding pieces of our two halves.

swipe to see what’s in my bag ➡️➡️➡️

why it’s just a beautiful poster for the coolest FREE night with the sickest lineup by the loveliest crew @_pull_up_peckham THIS FRIDAY at @aajamusic in Deptford 💌

i’m on a mission to play tracks i’d want to dance to in the club with my gals - girly r&b / hyperpop club, vogue edits, fancy dancey house, whatever strikes my fancy this week that I will load my usb up with.

if you’re about come thru and let’s have a dance 💖

I’ll have you know I was awarded most creative costume for this last min take on Elle Woods with things from my closet (thank you @anjuliepatel) and it’s a key achievement this year 🏆 by @sun___san___
