Sudani Shaah is a multi-dimensional artist based in Detroit. A graduate of College for Creative Studies and Detroit School of Arts, Sudani is building on her family’s artistic foundation. Her mother is multi-interdisciplinary artist Sabrina Nelson and her brother is visual and sculptural artist Mario Moore.  In this episode of CONTAINER on The Metro, we learn how Sudani is stepping into her own and creating a lane that is distinctly hers. by @sunamiwaves

WELCOME SUDANI SHAAH! Talking Dolls is spotlighting the Incubator Residents who have been working with us this summer. Please check out their social media to continue to support their practices! Sudani Shaah was born, raised, and is currently based in the city of Detroit, while also having roots in Ypsilanti, MI. She grew up traveling and living between the two cities throughout her childhood. Shaah attended Detroit School of Arts where she received her high school diploma. She is currently pursuing her Bachelor's Degree at College for Creative Studies studying in a Crafts: fibers/textiles major. Shaah mostly works within crafts hands-on mediums such as acrylics, metals, and fibers along with having some experiences within digital arts. Influences and subject matter in her work deal with her personal experiences of spirituality, black feminism, nature, and culture. by @sunamiwaves
@planetkaia looked amazing as the “Cozy Crafter” 👩🏽‍🔧🤩 This was my final look book for the two pieces I made in the @ccs_fashiondesign accessories class. My vision was to explore the intersection of craft and fashion, bringing together hand dyed textures, needle-felted forms, and structural utility. Showing how softness can be built into function—how fiber can hold, protect, and move with the body. Combining wearable storage with sculptural elements, the look leans into both care and construction. Thank you @torijanaephotography for helping capture this project! by @sunamiwaves
Custom DETZIM screen printing work by DETZIM artist and @ccs_detroit student Sudani Shaah (@sunamiwaves) honors a legacy of cultural exchange between Detroit and Zimbabwe, reflected in the image of two artists: Bob Marley and Stevie Wonder. Bob Marley composed “Zimbabwe”, a song that became an anthem for freedom fighters during the Zimbabwean revolution. Stevie Wonder wrote “Master Blaster (Jammin’)” interpolating Marley’s own song “Jamming” and singing about the end of the war in Zimbabwe. Both songs were made for Zimbabwe’s Independence (April 18, 1980). Wonder’s song marks the first piece of art from the US dedicated to Zimbabwe’s independence and drew a direct connection between Detroit and Zimbabwe. DETZIM continues this legacy of collaboration between these two spaces. A limited run of screen printed DETZIM T-shirts will be available for pre-order at tonight’s Research Zimbabwe event, with sales contributing to our fundraising efforts for Sadza Space. Join us tonight from 5-7 PM at @playhouselabs and pre-order your T-shirt! #detzim #detroitzimbabwe#culturalexchange #steviewonder #bobmarley #detroit #zimbabwe by @sunamiwaves
