🌀lots of art and journaling!
✨ exploring folklore in the Library of Tales
📚 reads a lot :)
welcome! 🌻❄️

POSTS STORIES REELS

🍃✨ Introducing: the Library of Tales ✨🍃

(Currently on pause! Will get back to this project later :) )

Planned this all out and almost forgot to share haha, but here we go! I’ve been wanting to do something with folktales for years and always find a reason not to, so here goes nothing and I’ll try and commit myself to reading and drawing a new folktale two times a month 📚

I want to do this because I’ve been enthralled by fairytales, folktales, myths and the likes since I was a child and I really want to actively learn more of those stories, from all over the world 📖✨ Most likely I’m starting with stories from close to home and places like Scotland where I feel inherently drawn to, but I hope that over time I’ll also arrive at tales from other continents 🌀🧡

Since I’m just starting this I have absolutely no idea if it’s too ambitious and I might need some time to get used to actively search for new tales, but honestly I’m more excited than doubtful!! First tale in two weeks 🤝🏼

You can join me if you wish, if you draw anything inspired by this project and want to share, you can use #LibraryOfTales and tag me and I’ll find it 😌✨🍃

Now let’s build a library of tales shall we! by @sunflowerwinters

Doing a Scotland series because I cannot and will not shut up about the fact I’m going on a three week trip in (coincidentally) three weeks and I’m losing my mind haha so soo excited 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🍃✨ by @sunflowerwinters

🖌️🎨 October day 25: coven 🎨🖌️

Full credit to my girlfriend for this concept, I only did the execution ✨✨✨ We were at an event a few weeks ago and we were looking for anti ai stickers but the only one we found was sold out haha (@illusterium we love you) and then she was like ‘but you can make your own!! With animals around a fire dancing or something!’ Obviously I immediately sketched 🖌️🖌️🖌️🖌️ (last slide, gem)

Not sure if I try love the execution so I might redo it but until then: message is clear 😎

October day 18, 19, 21, 22, 23 & 24 🪲🌉🌿🍓🍎🐦‍⬛✨

I mentioned it before but I had things in my private life to take care of which made time for the prompt list a little bit scarce, but I did manage to create something every evening for the past week, however small, and that’s a win!

I said it before and I’ll say it again: those €3 paint markers changed my entire journaling practice haha I am so happy with them it’s insane, it makes time for painting a LOT easier for me! Might upgrade to another set later but for now I’m using them until they’re empty 😌✨

So here’s a journal spread for ‘bridge’, ‘dwaallicht’(will-o-the-wisp), ‘offering’, ‘beetle’, ‘mist’ and ‘raven’ 🌉✨🍎🪲🌫️🐦‍⬛

(I actually made the crows on trees on the bottom for the non existing prompt ‘gathering’ which I somehow had in my head in the place of ‘offering’ lol, was so sure it was gathering until I checked and it sure was not :))) )

(That painting has a lovely story though because I painted it from memory: it’s a sight I see almost every morning when I bike to work through a forest and I thought it’d be perfect for the prompt gathering that doesn’t exist!! Haha)

🧙🏼‍♀️October day 17: wicked 🧙🏼‍♀️

Bringing back this bad boy of a double journal spread and everything wicked from my camera roll through the years 💚🩷

I would worry a lot that there would never be new comfort movies that I rewatch every time I need it. Like you grow up in your teens and create a collection of media that feel most like you for whatever reasons and I used to think for years that that specific collection that I created back then for me would just be that, but I have come to realise it can in fact evolve and new comfort movies will be released still!! The relief haha

Don’t think I’ll ever be able to comprehend how a movie (and music and musical and whole lore) can do this to a person but I’m honestly just glad to still feel things so deeply well into my late 20s ✨🌀

So no new new art but a reminder to feel things as deeply as you can and don’t be afraid to be moved by something and completely let it fill you!! Feeling things is cool!

🌀🦭October day 16: Selkie 🦭🌀

Selkies are my aaall time favourite mythical creature so even though I’m behind on the list I couldn’t miss out on today!! This part of the prompt list is also the part where it’s the in between phase, all the words are somewhat literal and figurative bridges to the more darker less cottagecore part of the month ✨

I don’t exactly know what it is that makes me love selkies so much, I think there’s a lot to say about the transformative part of them and also the feeling of longing for something where you’re truly yourself (in the selkie’s case the sea) that is so so interesting and makes me feel very seen in a way?? This is one of many things I love about folklore, how the stories are ancient and we can still feel so close to them 🦭🌀

I’ll make a reading list about selkies soon too because I read everything that has a selkie resemblance (even though there are also horrifying versions that shouldn’t have seen the light), will be back!

It’s also way easier for me to create something for a prompt where I’m instantly drawn to, also much to think about :) Anyway this was drawn with pencil on paper and then coloured digitally!

🦋✨ October day 11: moth ✨🦋

Sooo excited about this one!! I had a whole other idea in mind for a journal page instead of a sculpted painting kind of thing but I got carried away and had this sudden idea and I LOVE how it turned out! 🦋🍃✨

Since day two with moss the only thing I want to make is these kind of paintings haha it’s so fun!! Yet again I want to make more 🍃🍃🌱🌱 The art of creating for the sake of creating, so powerful 🧡🌀

🕯️✨ October day 10: wish ✨🕯️

Yesss I skipped day 8&9, because I didn’t want to rush them and I really like what I’m working on for those days so stay tuned, they will come later! I got a little bit into the ‘ohmygod help I cannot do this challenge’-mindset and I had quite some things going on at home that needed tending to, so delaying days (or skipping them altogether) is fine! 🌀🍃 We’re human and very busy so take a breath when you can 🌱

With that out of the way: doesn’t stop me from still wanting to do every single day and wanting to create something pretty every single day haha, great example I am. Truly great challenge to get the perfectionism out of the way because you simply dooon’t have the time 🕰️

So here’s day 10! Sat down for an hour to paint without any idea beforehand and I quite like the result 🍂⭐️ Make a wish friends! (The stones are wishing stones 🌀)

🌀✨ October day 7: button! ✨🌀

Something else entirely because I happen to have a life next to this lovely challenge and it turns out (totally unexpectedly of course) that it all does, indeed, take up time 🕰️ Nonetheless!! Couldn’t miss a day that’s so closely tied to one of my fave films ever aka Coraline!!

Maybe when I have more time I’ll do more with my own button collection because this was funnn. And also with scanning things other than paper and paintings on it, I think it could be very fun to experiment 🌀🍃✨

Any place selling buttons is not safe from me honestly (petition for a button emoji) 🌀✨

🍃✨ October day 6: dragonfly! ✨🍃

This might be my favourite until now!! I remembered I had some very pretty roughly pressed watercolour sheets and missed my beloved watercolours so perfect opportunity to use them ✨🌀 This challenge is so nice because I know I can’t keep up if I make every day super difficult and think about it too much and so the decision making is quick and until now it turns out well!!

It’s roughly based on the dragonfly that we found in our garden some weeks ago, poor baby all dehydrated by the summer heat 💔 She was sooo pretty though I had never seen a dragonfly that close and so, naturally, I wanted to paint her 🌀✨ The next day she was gone so we like to think she got well again with our help and continued her green life in peace 🍃

🍁🍂 October day 5: quilt! 🍂🍁

This one consists of two stories haha about socks, music and fabric… I can only laugh about when I think of this making process. I have the toxic trait of thinking I can just make anything I put my mind to and I usually get quite far, but there are gems like these where I better just… start over 🙂‍↔️

My ipod has been living in a sock for the past few months and I thought it was time for a proper case so it doesn’t need the sock anymore and what better way to make a case than creating a quilted mini cover?? Great idea, less great execution haha 💔 I had never quilted before but thought yet again that I could just do this, no trouble, an hour or so and I’d have a perfect little pouch. Exactly two fingers fit into it so my girlfriend concluded it would do perfectly as a finger warmer… which we absolutely need !??

Yea no this was a disaster but I WILL persevere and make another case for my ipod haha, may it be quilting or something else entirely 🤷🏻‍♀️ Might follow a quilting class at some point, to be continued 🌀🌀🌀

🐞✨ October day 4: ladybird ✨🐞

I wanted to make a collage from felt because I thought that’d be lovely and it was lovely but also way harder than I thought it would be but I want to make more now so that’s a good sign!! 🐞✨ I only have a few burnt orange shades, brown and this blue and pink, I will invest in some more shades because it turns out this is, in fact, fun 🍁✨🍃

I love trying new things!! Cannot wait to be home every day to work on something new again hehe the joy of creativity ✨🍃🍁🍎🍂🐈‍⬛🍄🌀
